The meeting of the new Bundestag on 26 October 2021 marked the end of the Federal Chancellor and Federal Ministers’ time in office, as per Article 69 section 2 of the Basic Law.

Under Article 69 section 3 of the Basic Law, the Federal President has requested that the Federal Chancellor continue to conduct business on a temporary basis. At the request of the Federal Chancellor, the Federal Ministers will also continue to act in an executive capacity.
