The Special Services Unit (SSU), based at Old Montrose and established in 1979, remains an elite unit of the Royal St.Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force.
It was originally set up to protect the state of St.Vincent and the Grenadines
against external military threats and insurrections. Today, the SSU’s remit has increased to provision of security at key points of duty, protection of the head of state and officials private residences, embassies as well as the homes of ambassadors from allied countries, etc.
To become a member of the Special Service Unit [SSU], one has to be a member of the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force.
The Unit is the military arm of the Police Force and is the first line of defense in the state, since St. Vincent and the Grenadines does not have an army or defense force.
The aim of the SSU is to serve the citizens of St. Vincent and the Grenadines with an unending passion for law and order in conjunction with the mission statement of the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force
