Team USA continues to command the lead with 40 points earned on day two, bringing the U.S. overall score to 90 at the ISU World Team Trophy in Tokyo, Japan. The U.S. extended its lead over Korea to 15 points.
Two U.S. teams topped the field to earn 12 points each for Team USA:
Alexa Knierim and Brandon Frazier in pairs and
Madison Chock and Evan Bates in the free dance. The women also contributed 16 points to put Team USA firmly in the lead.
Korea currently sits in second place with 75 points, and Japan is in third place with 74 points.
Starting the day off strong for Team USA were
Alexa Knierim and Brandon Frazier, who earned an international best score in the short program (82.25) en route to the top spot. In their best-ever performance, the two-time world medalists earned 9.80 points for their Level 4 Axel Lasso lift and all positive grades of execution to secure the spot over 2023 World champions Riku Miura and Ryuichi Kihara of Japan.
Following their teammates' lead, reigning World champions
Madison Chock and Evan Bates continued their dominance in the ice dance discipline earning their best-ever score of 138.41 in the free dance. Their skate to "Souffrance" by Orange Blossom and "Les Tectoniques" by Jorane featured a Level 4 curve lift, earning the duo over 15 points.
In the women's discipline,
Isabeau Levito led the U.S. in fourth, securing the team nine points, and
Amber Glenn in sixth place, earning seven points.
Sixteen-year-old Levito was only one point off her international best free skate score thanks to a 12-point triple Lutz-Euler-triple Salchow combination going on to score 142.65.
Amber Glenn closed out her World Team Trophy debut in sixth with a free skate score of 128.46 to contribute seven points to Team USA.
