    It's taken a deadly pandemic but consumers are shifting their spending back to smaller retailers and neighbourhood stores, a trend that is helping wholesaler Metcash post record sales growth.

    Metcash's wholesale supermarket sales soared 16.7 per cent in May and June after surging about 18 per cent in March and April, when consumers worried about their health due to the COVID-19 crisis avoided large shopping centres and visited Metcash's IGA and Friendly Grocer stores.
