No place for antisemitic incitement on campus
The protests that reduce the complex history of the Middle East to simplistic anti-Zionist slogans hardly align with universities’ founding institutional mission.
University Vice Chancellors have rejected calls from Jewish Australians to shut down the copy cat anti-Gaza war encampments because the protests on Australian campuses have not degenerated into the violent occupations and confrontations that have occurred at US colleges.
But the reputational embarrassment the encampments symbolise for Australia’s supposed institutes of higher learning cannot be dismissed just by uni chiefs’ citing the right to free speech.
