　初版しょはんは1986年ねんなので決けっして新あたらしい本ほんではないが現在げんざいは1994年度ねんど版ばんとなっている。実質じっしつ610ページとすごいボリュームで両生類りょうせいるいの教科書きょうかしょとなっている。カバーはカラーだが内容ないようは全すべてモノクロ。写真しゃしんやイラストも鮮明せんめいで印刷いんさつの質しつも問題もんだいない。有尾ありお、無む尾お、無む足あしと両生類りょうせいるい全すべてを網羅もうらしている。日本にっぽんでは1996年ねん発行はっこうの「両生類りょうせいるいの進化しんか」が教科書きょうかしょだが、アメリカでは本書ほんしょが基本きほん教科書きょうかしょと言いえる。英語えいごでしかも610ページと電話でんわ帳ちょう並なみでこの値段ねだんだが、必要ひつようなところだけを読よむなら大たいしたことはない。いろいろな実験じっけん・研究けんきゅうデータが載のっており、両生類りょうせいるいを知しる上じょうではもってこいの本ほんと言いえる。進化しんかの項こうなどはおもしろいのでは？ 巻末かんまつには分類ぶんるいが多おおくの写真しゃしんと分布ぶんぷ地図ちずで解説かいせつされている

Lots of good information. A bit mind-numbing in the way textbooks often are, but if you like amphibians and already have a basic understanding of related terms + anatomy its not too hard to follow along. I wouldn't really recommend this as a beginner's book, but if you've kept amphibians as pets for a while and want to expand on what beginner's guides have already told you, this is a great resource.

Publié en 1994, le livre de Duellman et Trueb est toujours d'actualité pour sa plus grande partie en 2011. Bien entendu la systématique a bien évoluée depuis sa publication, mais pour le reste, ce livre est une référence incontournable ! L'on y retrouve des informations détaillées sur la morphologie, l'anatomie, les stratégies de reproduction, le développement larvaire. Le complément et mise à jour idéal est au livre de Duellman et Trueb est celui de K.D. Wells "The Ecology and Behavior of Amphibians" publié en 2007. Ces deux ouvrages sont les références absolues sur les amphibiens et doivent figurer dans la bibliothèque de tout herpétologiste.
