I learned about this book from a citizen at the NPS Ft. Raleigh site. If not for his recommendation to get this book I wouldn't know this story. I can't put it down its so easy to read and I love the descriptive language. Im going to share this book with my travel companions. After visiting the Lost Colony site, we debated what happened and this book includes factual info that confirms some of the scenarios we discussed.

Scott Dawson wrote this some years ago, and is an excellent resource for anyone wanting to dig deeper into where the Lost Colony of Roanoke Island went in the 1500s. He has since been assisted in research with a professor, Dr. Mark Horton and assistants, from Bath University, England, who have uncovered many artifacts reference this location on Hatteras Island, N.C. You can find a youtube by searching for Horton and Dawson.

Scott Dawson is a very talented writer who gives vivid color to the voices of the past through his novel-like story of the colonist and americans. As a native resident of the Outer Banks and having his roots in the Croatoan tribe, he gives a very factual account of the actual events of the past- even probing through whether or not the colonist were really even lost at all. I highly recommend this book- especially for those who have strong feelings about alternative theories concerning early colonization of America.

Great read on a great moment in our country's history. Scott has done a nice job of striking the balance between sharing the facts and original sources and storytelling which keeps the reader engaged.
Well done Scott - I've had 5 others read it before letting them vacation with me this summer. They loved it as well and we're looking forward to your next book.
