I wont describe the story as there are indepth descriptions our there but i can happily say I finished this in a few sessions spread over a couple of days i enjoyed it that much. Personally this is my favourite work by Poe and I didnt think it would be. Some very memorable moments/scenes and good characters to fill them.

If your interested in poes work or stories about adventure and bad fortune this is worth a read.

I bought this book to read for a school project about the bizarre coincidences between it and a real-life event that happened well after the book was written. I don't want to give away too much of the story for those of you not familiar with it, but if you read this book and look up Richard Parker and the Mignonette you will find the TRUE story that this fictional book parallels. It's very fascinating, although sad and grisly. I did enjoy the book although I think I enjoyed it mostly because I knew the parallels already, so it was interesting to run across them as I read the book. Keep in mind that it was written by Edgar Allan Poe back in 1838 so the language is a bit more formal than our everyday English we use now, but with that in mind I really enjoyed the book.

This was a fascinating, and often horrifying adventure on the high seas. This is Poe's only full length novel and it is truly terrific. It's got darkness like only Poe can deliver, yet it is also very reminiscent of true narratives that relate the tales of violence and cannibalism in extreme circumstances.

This novel has been accused in the past of not being realistic but I've got two things to say to that:

1. It's fiction, and therefore has license to be fantastical in order to excite the reader

2. This account was inspired by a real newspaper article Poe read and is truly reflective in many ways of narrative exploration history.

The book is 200 pages and a fast and fun read. It's a classic you can sink your teeth into!

I quite rather enjoyed this book. It is an interesting read by a master and defies categorization. The Life of Pi is loosely related to this book (i.e. The name Richard Parker) and that is why I read it.

Poe takes you on a journey and weaves a gripping tale that was entertaining, thought provoking, and almost allegorical. It was interesting to see how the horror of his other works may be found here.

I picked this up because of the movie Life of Pi and they are indeed complimentary works by different artists.
