Who is Jesus? What did he do? What did he say? -Are the traditional answer to these questions still to be trusted? - Did the early church and tradition "Christianize" Jesus? - Was Christianity built on clever conceptions of the church, or on the character and actions of an actual person? These and similar questions have come under scrutiny by a forum of biblical scholars called the Jesus Seminar. Their conclusions have been widely publicized in magazines such as Time and Newsweek. Jesus Under Fire challenges the methodology and findings of the Jesus Seminar, which generally clash with the biblical records. It examines the authenticity of the words, actions, miracles, and resurrection of Jesus, and presents compelling evidence for the traditional biblical teachings. Combining accessibility with scholarly depth, Jesus Under Fire helps readers judge for themselves whether the Jesus of the Bible is the Jesus of history, and whether the gospels' claim is valid that he is the only way to God.

5,0 sur 5 étoiles Jesus Under Fire
Avis laissé au Royaume-Uni le 18 mars 2012
Jesus Under Fire: Modern Scholarship Reinvents the Historical Jesus Jesus of Nazareth has come under fire since the time that He walked this earth some 2,000 years ago. Today there are those who follow Jesus, accepting Him as the Way, the Truth and the Life. Others ignore Him, and others again attack Him and what the Bible has to say about Him.

In this age Jesus is still under fire, and one group at the forefront of the attack on Him is known as `The Jesus Seminar'. Faith Under Fire is a refutation of the claims of this group.

The content is excellent, but the quality and size of the print is poor. In an age when people spend many hours looking at computer screens, to tackle a book then with such a small font size can be somewhat off-putting. Not only is the font size small but the pages look as though they have been photocopied rather than printed. Zondervan streamlined the process in record time to get the book out quickly. Unfortunately, in my opinion the quality has suffered. I award the book with 5 stars because of the content and recommend the book for those who are concerned about the attacks on Jesus Christ and who want to consider the evidence objectively.

5,0 sur 5 étoiles Brilliant response to the Jesus Seminar
Avis laissé aux États-Unis le 25 avril 2004
I love this book. Some of the best evangelical scholars do careful and calculated work to respond to the shoddy fabrication of Jesus that the Jesus Seminar seems so proud of. Having spent time reviewing the Seminar's The Five Gospels and The Complete Gospels among some of their other works, I am more convinced now that what the scholars in Jesus Under Fire have done is not only called for, but right on target.
The Seminar is inconsistent in the application of its own criteria and even more shocking to me was the lack of direct scholarly references and argumentation to document their conclusions. Their assumptions and academic credentials seem to authoritatively seal the case in their minds. These are exactly the type of weaknesses Jesus Under Fire demonstrates in the Seminar's reconstruction of Jesus. Unlike the Seminar's translation and commentary, Jesus Under Fire is detailed, well argued and extensively footnoted. Amazon provides a table of contents and other reviewers have already summarized this excellent book so I won't recover that ground.
Among my favorite articles are Bock's "Live, Jive or Memorex" which has helped me in explaining the historical nature of the Bible to some of my doubting friends. I also love Geivett's "Is Jesus The Only Way?" which provides some original thoughts on how to approach our pluralistic society with the exclusive claims of Christ. McKnight's introduction to Jesus Studies was helpful to me as I approached this arena. All of the articles are excellent.
With the increasing media coverage of the Jesus Seminar this is an important resource for biblical Christians who are thoughtful in their approach to the gospels. The Jesus Seminar may be here for a long haul, but so are the responses presented in this great book.

5,0 sur 5 étoiles Great Resource
Avis laissé aux États-Unis le 11 janvier 2022
After reading Lee Strobel's Case for Christ, I was blown away by how incredible it is and perused through his sources. I came across this book which he had referenced and has chapters from a number of people he interviewed. It's great to see their own writings in their words as well as referring back to Strobel's book for tidbits on their personalities! Haha. This is a truly remarkable resource when you're looking to go more in-depth with those who don't understand the reason we believe in Christianity! It's so hard to imagine how you could get through it and not believe. Thank you for offering a great product and God bless America and future readers of this great book!
