The Princess and the Pilot's 9-Minute Digest Streamed
posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
The official website for The Princess and the Pilot (To Aru Hikūshi e no Tsuioku), the latest anime film from the Studio Madhouse, began streaming a nine-minute digest video for the film on Thursday. The film will be released on Blu-ray Disc and DVD on February 24 in Japan.
Koroku Inumura's original war romance light novel revolves around Charles Karino, a Revaamu Empire mercenary aerial pilot who mans the twin-seater reconnaissance seaplane Santa Cruz. One day, he receives a preposterous assignment: to fly solo over 12,000 kilometers of enemy waters to protect a girl named Fana del Moral. Fana happens to be the next in line to the empire's throne.
Madhouse's many other film credits include Summer Wars and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. Jun Shishido directed The Story of Saiunkoku and Hajime no Ippo: New Challenger before tackling this project. Satoko Okudera (Summer Wars, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time) wrote the new film's screenplay, and Hidenori Matsubara (Ah! My Goddess/Sakura Wars character designer, new Evangelion films' animation director) adapted its character designs from Haruyuki Morisawa's original novel illustrations. The TMS Entertainment-produced film opened in Japan on October 1.
The film held its North American debut in November at the Waterloo Festival in Canada.
