The “Packaging/Notes; Best Album Cover” Field was introduced in 1959 with the inclusion of the Grammy Award for Best Album Cover; the title of the award has varied over the years. The categories were divided from 1962 to 1965 based on classical and non-classical genres. Until 2008 the Grammys awarded the category Best Album Notes. Currently only two categories are awarded in this field, they are:

  • Best Recording Package - The Grammy Award for Best Recording Package is an award that is presented to the art director of the album for the visual look of the album. It was first presented in 1959. It was separated into classical and non-classical divisions from 1962 to 1965.
  • Best Boxed/Special Limited Edition - The Grammy Award for Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package has been handed out since 1995. From the year of its introduction to 1997 the award was known as Best recording Package - Boxed.
