Three of seven libraries earmarked for closure by Moray Council are to remain open, after a legal a challenge began.

Campaigners had pointed to warnings by council officials that vulnerable groups would be adversely affected by the closure of Burghead, Dufftown and Cullen libraries.

Council leaders maintained the decision to close seven had been right.

However, they said the council could not commit to a lengthy period of litigation.

The Conservative independent coalition said that this would bring uncertainty and cost to the public purse.

The council had said the cuts were necessary to save more than £350,000.

Libraries in Findochty, Hopeman, Portknockie and Rothes remain pinpointed for closure.
