Application Process

Begin your application by following the steps outlined in each position posting you are interested in, and be sure to both submit your application via Workday and complete the Google form if specified to do so in the postings you are interested in. From there, your application will be reviewed.

Many faculty will then move a subset of candidates to a data task, which is often a test of coding and data manipulation ability utilizing R, Python, or Stata. Data tasks will be evaluated and candidates will then be invited to interview on the basis of the results of their data task.

From there, an offer will be extended to the selected candidate. At all points in the application process, Booth will contact selected candidates about moving on to the next stage in the application process.

Data Task

Many RP positions ask applicants to complete a data task, which is designed to evaluate a candidate’s coding knowledge and ability to manipulate data, among other skills. Data tasks differ across searches and the area of faculty research. Below is a sample data task that will help candidates explore the general structure of the task and practice completing it. Suggested solutions to the task generated by previously hired RPs are also available below.

Should a data task require a Stata license that you do not have, please note that Stata makes one-week licenses available to students for free. Should a license fee or any other factor keep you from moving forward in the application process, please email us to make arrangements regarding this.

Diversity in Research Staff Hiring

We are dedicated to creating an environment where people of different backgrounds feel valued and where their ideas and contributions can flourish. We promise to remain vigilant and dedicated, ceaselessly working to identify and remove barriers to full participation.
