Taxes in Izumo City(税金 のお知 らせ)【English】
Izumo City collects taxes in order to provide various public services such as welfare, education, fire departments, emergency aid, and garbage collection. If you are eligible to pay the following taxes, you must pay them in order to use these services. Below you will find information on what kinds of taxes you must pay and when and where to pay them.
○ Municipal Inhabitant Tax (shikenminzei)
Who must pay:
Persons residing in Izumo City as of January 1st of the applicable year.
How to pay:
(1) Have it deducted directly from your salary.
(2) Pay it yourself (if you do not have it deducted directly from your salary)
- Invoice (nōfu-sho)
- Automatic payment
When to pay it (self-payment only):
June, August, October, January
Documents:
You will receive a tax notice (nōzei tsūchi-sho)※ in mid-June. We will send you an invoice around the 15th of the month in which you must pay your taxes. Please pay the amount due by the deadline.
If you have chosen to have your taxes automatically withdrawn from your bank account, you will not receive an invoice. Instead, we will charge the amount due from your bank account on the last day of the month in which you must pay your taxes.

○ National Health Insurance Premium (kokumin kenkō hokenryō)
Who must pay:
The head of any household with one or more family members enrolled in national health insurance.
When to pay it:
July, August, September, October, November, December, January, February, March
Documents:
You will receive an insurance premium notice (hokenryō tsūchi-sho)※ in mid-July. If you have enrolled in national health insurance in or after July, you will receive your insurance premium notice in the following month.
We will send you an invoice (nōfu-sho) around the 15th of the month in which you must pay your premium. Please pay the amount due by the deadline.
If you have chosen to have your premium automatically withdrawn from your bank account, you will not receive an invoice. Instead, we will charge the amount due from your bank account on the last day of the month in which you must pay your premium.

○ Light Vehicle Tax (keijidōshazei)
Who must pay:
Persons who have an existing registration for e.g. a light vehicle or a motorized bicycle as of April 1st.

Please contact Izumo City Hall if you are struggling to pay your taxes by their deadline or if you are moving out of Izumo City e.g. because you are leaving the country. If you do not pay your taxes by the deadline, you will receive a notice of late payment (tokusoku-jō) and you will have to pay both a handling fee and a late fee. Your assets may also be seized.
