CLEVELAND, Ohio - Second baseman Sam Haggerty is the Carolina League's Player of the Week for the span of April 24-30. Haggerty is the first Hillcats player to win the award this season.

Haggerty, selected by the Cleveland Indians in the 24th round of the 2015 draft out of New Mexico, went 9-for-21 with four doubles, three triples, three stolen bases, two RBIs and scored nine times.

Prior to sitting out the last two games, Haggerty led the Carolina League in a number of offensive categories, including triples (6), extra-base hits (13) and slugging percentage (.606). The switch-hitter ranks third on the circuit with 17 runs scored and fourth in both stolen bases (8) and doubles (7).

Haggerty has provided some pop from both sides of the plate. He has four doubles and four triples batting lefthanded and three doubles and two triples from the right side.

Last year, the Hillcats tied a team record with 10 Carolina League weekly awards, including three consecutive Players of the Week at one point. Tyler Krieger, Bobby Bradley, Anthony Santander, Mike Papi, Dorssys Paulino and Yu-Cheng Chang all earned Carolina League Player of the Week in 2016 to go along with four different CL Pitchers of the Week.

Hartson, drafted by the Indians in the 21st round of the 2015 draft, went 6 2/3 innings and tied a career high with seven strikeouts to earn the victory. Hartson, 23, was 7-5 in Lake County last season and 2-1 in his short stay in Lynchburg last season.

Streakers: Jodd Carter and Ka'ai Tom are on eight-game hitting streaks, the longest by any Hillcats player this season. Tom leads the Hillcats with 13 RBIs. He had seven RBIs during the last six-game homestead when he went 9-of-19 (.450) with two doubles, a triple, a homer and six runs scored.

Carter, 24, had two home runs during the most recent homestand and leads the team with three home runs. Carter's hitting streak began on April 23. He's 11-of-29 with four RBIs, six runs and a stolen base since.

Carter, a center fielder, was selected by the Tribe in the 24th round of the 2014 draft. Tom, an outfielder, was a fifth-round selection in the 2015 draft.

Hillcats update: The Hillcats are 12-12 and tied for third in the Carolina League Northern Division, three games behind the division-leading Salem Red Sox. ... The Hillcats are home to Potomac the remainder of the weekend, then begin a three-game homestand against Carolina on Tuesday.
