Frontier Airlines posted record profits in December of $18.7 million.

Frontier chief executive Sean Menke said it was a big step for the airline as it tries to navigate its way out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

The Denver-based airline eked out a net profit of $2.9 million in November, its first profitable month in bankruptcy. The company, which went into Chapter 11 reorganization in April, posted a profit of $7.7 million, excluding special charges, for the quarter ended in December.

Menke said the airline is looking for financing of $125 million to exit bankruptcy. He said he will meet with potential investors over the next several weeks.

Once Frontier gets financing, it hopes to emerge from bankruptcy within three to four months, Menke said.
