Laura Jeanne Reese Witherspoon (born on March 22, 1976 in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA) is an American actress, producer, and entrepreneur. She began her career as a child actress, starring in The Man in the Moon in 1991. In 1996, she then appeared in Freeway and then also starred in Pleasantville in 1998. In 2000, she earned a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in Comedy and also a Musical Nomination for Election.

Witherspoon's breakthrough role was playing Elle Woods in the 2001 film Legally Blonde, for which she received her second Golden Globe nomination. The following year, she starred in the romantic comedy Sweet Home Alabama, which emerged as her biggest live-action commercial success.
