With over 72 sales to her credit since her first publication in 1987, Michigan author Nancy Gideon’s writing career is as versatile as the romance market, itself. Her books encompass genres from historicals and regencies to contemporary suspense and the paranormal. Her works have been published overseas in Romanian, Italian, Russian, Portuguese, Danish, German, Icelandic and Chinese, among other languages.
Also listed on the International Movie Database (IMDB), she collaborated on the indie horror films In the Woods and Savage with screenwriting and ADR script credits, and even played the character “Bar Extra.”
A national speaker on writing in general and romance in particular, Gideon is a Western Michigan University honors grad with a major in journalism and minors in history and communications. She’s a member of Novelist, Inc. and the Mid-Michigan, Greater Detroit, PASIC and FF&P chapters of Romance Writers of America®, and is former vice-president, published author co-liaison and award-winning newsletter editor for MMRWA.
The mother of two grown sons, one married and proud producer of her grandson and the other shanghaied into being her occasional assistant, she 's retired from 18 years as a legal assistant.
A prolific writer, Gideon who also writes as Dana Ransom and Lauren Giddings, attributes her creative output, which once peaked at seven novels in one year, to her love of history and a gift for storytelling. She also credits the discipline learned through a background in journalism and scheduling writing time around diaper changes, Scout meetings, band lessons and outings to the Zoo Boo...and, of course, OCD. The due date for her third book and her second son were on the same day...and both were early! When on deadline, she'd turn on the laptop between 4:30 and 5:00 a.m. to get a chapter in before work.
While the pace is often hectic, Gideon, a Gemini, enjoys tackling diverse projects. One month it’s researching the gritty existence of 1880’s Texas Rangers only to jump to modern themes of intrigue and possibly a legal thriller or two. Then, it’s back to the shadowy netheworld of shape shifters, vampires and movie serial killers. When not working on her latest plot twist before sunrise, even now that she no longer works 9-5, she enjoys indulging in Netflix, hosting her critique group, and feeding all things fur, fin and fowl. And, of course, reading.
This was a very good read but stressful. There is a lot of internal angst due to the main characters not communicating or trusting each other's feelings...or their own, for that matter. They also do not explain themselves after a crisis is past. I still love Max, but Cee Cee annoyed me for a great portion of the book...until I felt sorry for her...now she may be growing on me. The external angst is fierce and getting fiercer as the trackers are coming for Max. I am very compelled to continue this series...despite my stress level;)...and some inconsistencies.
The romance between Detective Charlotte “Cee Cee” Caissie and newly minted crime boss, Max Lavoie, is progressing at a natural pace (that is to say all hot and heavy), when Max becomes the prime suspect in a series of murders targeting those closest to a local politician. In order to maintain her objectivity, Charlotte must distance herself from Max, but work behind the scenes to clear his name. Unfortunately, Max has dark secrets that are not helping the situation…
The story is enjoyable despite my problems with Charlotte running first hot then cold. She is obviously not as emotionally invested in the relationship as Max although she does seem to be getting there slowly. In terms of Max’s characterization, the dominant/submissive inconsistency persists and I hope that it is resolved soon as it undermines his alpha hero status.
A certain amount of suspension of disbelief is required with the plot as there is a clear conflict of interest in Charlotte’s ongoing connection with Max. That said, the investigation is good and the revelation of the villain (although unsurprising) is exciting. The overall story arc is developing in an interesting direction with more details on Max's past, which may have far reaching consequences on his future.
The secondary characters are starting to grow on me as well. I was naughty and took a peek at the blurbs for future books, and it looks like the series switches from focusing on Max and Charlotte to other couples from book #5 onwards. I probably continue at least until then, especially since I’m a sucker for a global conspiracy.
3.5 stars Charlotte and Max are going through a rough time as they navigating their relationship. Max taking over Legere's empire isn't making her job as a detective very easy as Max is always the number 1 suspect when things go down. With the rape and murders of a politician widely known to oppose Max's business interests, many people are questionin Detective Caissie's objectivity and loyalty. Will this new investigation end their relationship or will they continue to compromise To make it work?
I enjoy this story though I want to know even more of what Max can do as a shifter. I was waiting for one of them to get fired or killed. The story kept me on pins and needles. I love how the man is the hard yet soft one in the relationship. I love her partner Babineau and how he really is on CeeCee's side. I know that trouble is on the horizon and that decision both keep avoiding will have to be made.
I have to admit for a good portion of the book I wanted the shifters to eat Cee Cee. I was disappointed to read in the beginning that Max and Cee Cee were back to distrust and non-communication. Cee Cee annoyed the heck out of me with her sitting on the fence when it came to her relationship with Max. It was probably only the last 40% of the book that worked for me. Cee Cee claimed her man and finally they made some progress. For books 1 and 2 it was one step forward and two steps back and I was getting over it. I'm reading book 3 because I love Max and I like the world NG has created
WOW and OMG. This are the first words that comes to my mind how to describe this book and does NOT need another introduction, in my opinion of course. But if you love to read PNR books, i highly recommend this one. Purely amazing, heartbreaking and phenomenal. You don't really want to miss out on a great book.
Chased By Moonlight is the second book in Nancy Gideon's By Moonlight series. I'm happy to say they just get keep getting better and better! Max Savoie is now the head of Legere's Crime Organization, and Charlotte Caissie is still a New Orleans Police Detective in charge of two murder investigations that hit way too close to home for her. One - they are a revolting reminder of the nightmare she endured at the hands of Legere's goons as an innocent teenager and two - the man she is sleeping with is the number one suspect...again! Cee Cee's career is on the line. Her priorities are being questioned. How can she clear Max Savoie without compromising her job and everything she believes in? There's only one way. She must leave him and stay away from him until she finds the real murderer. But will leaving him be the very thing that tears them apart for good?
Max finds himself leader of the biggest crime organization in the city with little idea of how to run it and hold on to the woman he has loved as long as he can remember. He finally has a chance to have Charlotte but someone is framing him for horrific murders. Murders that could only be committed by one of his own kind - a shapeshifter. Max has also discovered he is not alone - there is a underworld of shifters living in New Orleans and they are looking to Max to lead and protect them. There is also an ominous stranger lurking around who may hold the key to Max's past and future, but he will sell anything for a dollar...including Max. As Max learns of the danger that is close to engulfing him and the city, he vows to do whatever it takes to keep Cee Cee safe - even if it means pushing her away from him.
Forces are at work that threaten to tear Max & Cee Cee's fragile relationship apart forever. They are in a battle for their lives, their relationship, their love...Do they trust each other enough? Is love enough? Book 2 of the By Moonlight series is even better than the first! Readers are drawn deeper into the shifter world of Max Savoie and the woman he loves. I could not put Chased By Moonlight down. It is a book that will keep you turning the pages late into the night. A must read! Loved it!
Chased by Moonlight, finally brings some of the reality of the extent of the challenge of achieving a happily ever after for the Homicide Detective Charlotte Caissie in love with the mob boss Max Savoie who again ends up the prime suspect in one of her investigations. So this time it is necessary for the pair to keep their distance in order for Charlotte to do her job and to keep that job as well.
I still love the leading man shapeshifter Max. It helps that he is trying to clean up his act and begin to try to operate his inherited business in a more legitimate fashion. Still Max an intriguing combination of dangerous and vulnerable - as someone who in the past acted solely out of loyalty and never before considered the morality of his actions. And it is easy to love a leading man who loves so unconditionally.
His leading lady, Charlotte is still much more difficult to love, she struggles with her inexperience with personal relationships and the fact that before anything else she is a cop, so this means that there are major conflicts with her love for a man who is so wrong for her and this does mean some emotional pain for the pair. But there is hope, Charlotte is growing as a character, and there are glimmers of the possiblity of Charlotte accepting Max (both man and beast).
The adventures continue. Cee cee and Max are destined to be together. As much as things tear them apart, then are able to mend the relationship, much like Max can mend his body when he needs to. These two each have a past that impacts their current lives and those around them. While different situations, the past comes back to haunt each of them in their own lives and in their relationship.
Even though Max is a hardass in business dealings, he proves to have a sensitive heart especially where Cee Cee is concerned. She is also a hardass, but her sensitivity where Max is concerned, exposes her softer side.
Max's past and Cee Cee's past will, I'm sure, come into even more play in the books to come.
I really enjoyed this book but I also didn't enjoy this book due to how they were constantly pulled a part. And I'm excited for the next book due to how this one ended.
There is a murder CeeCee must investigate rather than get her week off like she was supposed to. The murder victim, someone killed by tooth and claw, which points to Max, or someone like Max. It really irritated me how people treated Cee Cee and how she kept thinking the worst of Max instead of thinking. However she still had his back, and he still had hers, this series seriously reminds me of Down Side Ghosts quite a bit even if they are executed differently.
Still a great book can't wait to read the next one.
This one was better than the first. In fact I was really loving it. Until about halfway though it was implied that Max was seeing other women when they had a break in there relationship. When he was trying convince his dad that she meant nothing to him, and so he could get close enough to find out what he needed to know. So he had to fit into his dads drinking and whoring ways. I didn't like the way this was handled I don't like when authors use that in the plot. On a better note Max seems to be developing as a stronger person, in the first book he just seemed weak.
It only cost 25 cents. Rinse. Lather. Repeat. It only cost 25 cents. At least there was a twist at the end. Otherwise it would have totally sucked. And I had very, very low expectations going in....
Hours before she called away, Detective Charlotte ‘CeeCee’ Caissie was thinking how deliriously happy with her new love, shifter Max Sevoie who recently inherited NOLA’s largest criminal enterprise. CeeCee and her partner catch a brutal rape and murder scene and the victim happens to be the daughter of Max’s biggest and most vocal adversary. A politician.
CeeCee’s certain Max has an alibi until he doesn’t. Trying to put distance between them during the case is difficult since their relationship seems to be common knowledge that even the suspects reference it. Things go from bad to worse when a second rape/murder victim is found.
Max and CeeCee’s relationship was headed to the next level before the murders got in the way. But they’re both at a crossroads, choosing the job over each other they jeopardize their relationship and choosing each other over their jobs could cost their careers. Max is overwhelmed with other problems, including untrustworthy people he can’t fire, a shadowy figure trailing him, an unwelcome blast from his past. Rating: 4.75stars
Wowweee. Nancy Gideon can write and she has an editor....
Story development is moving right along, getting to know the characters a bit better, solved a crime and got to know the 'outside' characters more thoroughly. I'm liking it, NOLA really doesn't seem to play a bit part in the stories yet, other than a few streets and landmarks, hopefully as the stories progress she will as well.
Wish I had of found this series earlier, but I'll hurry up and read it and hopefully her next series are just a good.
Another riveting winner! From reading the back jacket I wasn't too sure I wanted to start the series I had a few of them, but I read the first one today, the second one today, and I'm going to go and start the third one!! Had to order the fourth, aargh! It's not going to come fast enough! The story of charlotte & max is great- interesting situation, when you don't see in shifter novels! More amazing stuff coming down the pipeline makes it very attractive to keep grabbing the next book!
Pod vlivem úplňku je propracovanějším, zábavnějším pokračováním poměrně nudného, plochého úvodu do světa Nancy Gideon, jaký představoval první díl její série Čistá krev.
Zcela jistě by sahala až k jejím kotníkům.
(str. 266)
Nancy Gideon does it again with another great shapeshifter romance that is guaranteed to knock your socks off (or making you go running out of them). Full of fangs and claws, peppered with just the right amount of passion, CAPTURED BY MOONLIGHT is the third in the Moonlight Trilogy and an excellent addition to the series.
If you remember my review of Masked by Moonlight, Cee Cee and Max were just finding themselves drawn to each other. Now, the passion between them is hotter than ever before, but like any good romance, there's something in the way. What's a couple with an obvious spark between them supposed to do when the one thing about to snuff that spark out is ... themselves.
Cee Cee doesn't know how not to live her life as a police officer. Recent events have taken Max's life in new and interesting ways, even if they aren't always legal. Trying to overcome these issues would be hard enough for two passionate lovebirds. Throw a nefarious scheme into the mix and you'll wind up with two characters who will have to take a good look at where their true loyalties really lie.
Probably the best aspect of CAPTURED BY MOONLIGHT is the suspense that Ms. Gideon puts us through. Max and Cee Cee are two fantastic characters and seeing them struggle really does make the reader struggle with them. In this latest installment to the series, even the reader starts to wonder who they should be rooting for. Do we want Cee Cee and Max to form a bond? Do we side with Cee Cee over Max or vice-versa? Ms. Gideon throws us in a whirlwind of decision making that will leave the reader exhausted at the end and begging for more.
If you couldn't already tell, I have become a big fan of Ms. Gideon's writing. The stories are complex, layer after layer added to keep the reader interested. Her writing style is clear which is a good thing considering how complex some of the parts can get. Also, she has a great way with descriptions that really allows the reader to visualize the story and become a part of it. Reading this book is less like reading and more like having the opportunity to hop down and partake in the story with the characters. To me, that's the sign of a true storyteller and Ms. Gideon does it wonderfully.
If you're a fan of Paranormal Romance, and love to have a little shapeshifter action in your books, I think you'll find something to love within the pages of CAPTURED BY MOONLIGHT. This is a great story that will get your adrenaline pumping and will probably wear out the edge of your seat.
They’re back!!! Chased by Moonlight sees the return of New Orleans detective CeeCee Caissie and her shape shifter lover Max Savoie in book 2 of this great series from Nancy Gideon. And the action picks up right were book 1 leaves off. For full value and to truly appreciate the complexities of the relationship between Max and CeeCee’s, you really should read the 1st book in the series Masked by Moonlight - you will not be disappointed - it was a fabulous book!
More Max and CeeCee means more mistrust, more awesomesause romantic sizzle - because these 2 really do heat up the pages and many more hurdles to climb as these two try to eek out a relationship that is constantly being tested and is on very shaky ground. But that’s what makes it a great story!
Chased by Moonlight brings about big changes for CeeCee and Max.
Max has inherited his dead crime lord boss and mentor Jimmy Legere’s somewhat questionable business enterprises and must watch is back as someone within the ranks is determined to see Max fail. At the same time Max is learning about his abilities and his past and just what exactly he is and a mysterious stranger in town claiming to be Max‘s long lost daddy seems willing to provide Max with some answers.
CeeCee’s caught another homicide case and once again the circumstances surrounding the suspicious death of a young girl has CeeCee setting her sights on Max as her prime suspect. CeeCee immediately recognizes the method used to murder the girl as the work of a shape shifter and since CeeCee’s only aware of one such animal with those particular abilities….she assumes…if the shoes fits?
I know they say love is blind, but truthfully CeeCee’s ease at accepting Max as her prime suspect was frustrating. This man loves her to infinity and beyond and thank goodness she realized early on in her investigation that Max was not the culprit. Her constant mistrust of Max was mildly aggravating considering how they felt about each other in their personal lives.
As long as Max and CeeCee are on opposite sides of the law, their relationship continues to be tested.
The relationship between Max and CeeCee is a work in progress and I personally hope for many more books in this series. These two are definitely a dynamic duo( no not like Batman and Robin).
Chased by Moonlight by Nancy Gideon Paranormal Romance –June 29th, 2010 4 stars
Chased by Moonlight is Nancy Gideon’s 2nd book in a trilogy about the shape shifter Max Savoie and his Detective Charlotte Caissie. In this next suspenseful book Charlotte and Max are just beginning as a couple and although they love each other the strain of a high profile murder and issues with commitment makes their newfound relationship shaky. This was an enjoyable paranormal with many sub plots that made it a fascinating read but one which can easy be read by itself.
Max has just taken over of his deceased mob boss’s business. But danger lurks as his boss’s jealous and malicious nephew plans to replace him. Max is further troubled by the sudden appearance of a mysterious man who claims to be his father. If that wasn’t enough the vicious murder of the high profile daughter of a powerful man points to Max.
Charlotte is on the case and her primary suspect is Max. But Charlotte soon realizes Max couldn’t be the murderer. But her early hesitation has made her relationship with him tense. Determined to prove his innocence she realizes she must put a hold on their time as a couple or risk showing favoritism and destroy her case. But the further she digs the more questions she has.
This was a quick, light read. Max and Charlotte have a wonderful rapport. I enjoyed reading about their rocky relationship and how they finally confessed they loved each other. This book does an excellent job of building upon the relationship between the 2 of the main characters as their respect and understanding of each other grow. Max has a sensitive and vulnerable side not often seen in the male hero but still is able to maintain his fierce masculinity. Due to his unconventional upbringing he has at times an unsure and childlike innocence that is in sharp contrast to his ruthless reputation. Charlotte is a strong workaholic bent on finding justice. She is an instantly likeable heroine and together they are a joy to read!
A fantastic, sexy paranormal series. I can’t wait to find out what will happen to Charlotte and Max next, please keep them coming Nancy Gideon!

I enjoyed this book very much. Nancy Gideon is an excellent writer. Her stories are always intriguing with many layers to unwrap until you finally finish the book and say, "hey wait...I don't want it to end. I want more."
The story takes place in New Orleans, however, she has created a paranormal world within the city where a clan of shape-shifters live and work among humans.
"Chased" is the second of four books with the same hero and heroine. This isn't typical. We have all read trilogies or series in which the stories are wrapped up and the boy and girl live happily ever after. Then we move on to the next book, where we might meet up with them again briefly but the main characters are new.
In the first book, Masked by Moonlight we are introduced to Max Savoie. He isn't the typical "hero" we are used to in romances. He is the right-hand man of a crime boss and a shape-shifter, no less. Charlotte Caissie, a homicide detective is the heroine. Thus, the conflict. The pull between these two characters is immediate and they are charismatic. The sexual tension is great.
As the story unfolds we learn things about Max and you can't help but be sympathetic. So while he is a "bad" guy, you find yourself pulling for him.
In the subsequent stories Captured by Moonlightand Bound by Moonlightwe get the pleasure of watching the relationship develop to a deeper level than can be shown in one book.
I really liked this aspect. I anxiously started the other books so I could read more about Max and Cee Cee (as she is called).
I highly recommend this book (and the whole series) regardless if you like paranormal romance. Hey, I discovered I like shape-shifters --- especially the sexy ones.
Nancy Gideon has done it again, with her second book in the Moonlight Series—Chased by Moonlight.
They’re back! The mouth-watering Max and the lovely Charlotte have returned, their relationship is growing, and their connection is undeniable.
Max Savoie has gone from being a mob boss’s bodyguard to now becoming the top dog of the New Orleans mob scene. He will give it all away if that’s what it takes to keep Charlotte in his life.
Charlotte Caissie is a sassy experienced New Orleans detective who has had to walk a fine line when it comes to her relationship with Max. She will stop at nothing to keep Max safe and out of harms way.
New alliances have been made, and Max is by far the strongest of them all. Max has always longed to be part of a family and be wanted, finally he has everything he needs with Charlotte. There’s someone new in town, and he is about to tell Max everything he knows about the shifters and the past. Can Max trust him? Will he be able to keep Charlotte safe? Max and Charlotte will stand together to protect each other and to find the truth. Many questions will be answered in Chased by Moonlight.
This is the second book in her paranormal romance set in the New Orleans. It is a great, new, exciting series!
Nancy’s characters leave you wanting more and more. The first book in the series is Masked by Moonlight by Nancy Gideon.
Favorite Quote (Charlotte): “You’re mine, Savoie. Every piece of you is mine. Every breath you take is mine. And I want you madly.”
I enjoyed the heck out of this one! So much more than the first book. My only real complaint~ no audio for this series :(
Cee Cee is called in to investigate the gruesome murder of a young woman. All evidence points to a werewolf and that puts her in an extremely precarious position. Although werewolves remain a myth to most humans, she knows they are real. After all, she's in a relationship with a very powerful one.
Max Savoie is always the first suspect. He was known as the Legere's enforcer and has now stepped into the role of 'Boss'. How can a relationship work between a crime boss and a detective? Well, it's barely surviving at the moment. I'm curious to see where things go with Cee Cee's career.
Even though I wanted to smack their heads together at some parts, I really enjoyed this. Cee Cee can be a real B*% to Max! But then, she's a cop and he's the supposed bad guy. She's in a bad position to be in love with him. For him, she will lie, break the law, bend the truth and even die to protect him. For her, he will do anything.
I'm so glad that Max discovered more about his werewolf side. He's very powerful and I don't think we've scratched the surface on exactly what that means yet. What will happen when "they" come for him? And who will it be? When is T-John gonna get his due? Yep, I'm hooked now. I need to know!
The story continues with Cee Cee & Max trying to make their relationship work within the confines of her police work and his mob business. Bodies are still being found in spite of Spratt being dead. And now Max has to cope with a strange yet powerful shifter in town, one that offers to reveal Max’s past. (We get a lot of good information on Max’s history.) In fact, most of the story is about his history.
The whole premise of Cee Cee still not trusting Max is absurd. He’s killed, yes, but she knows him and his motivations. And she know there are other shifters out there who could be capable. Since he is the head of the shifters she should ask him to find out which one is doing this against his knowledge. Give him the benefit of the doubt stead of just assuming he’s the culprit.
Everything and everybody seems to be trying to push them apart, even themselves. I’m getting tired of CeeCee and Max’s constant moaning over how to make their relationship work. You’d think Max would have a thicker skin. I know they are on opposite sides of the law, but there’s been couples like that in other series who have made it work. Like any relationship in takes work and trust.
Fave Scenes: ‘Baby’, tossed out on the steps, the warehouse confrontation and Max & Cee Cee playing chase
This picks up where the other left off. Now Max is running the organization and trying to slowly find himself and find his new direction. Charlotte is now having to deal with his new role. before he was behind the scene and now he is out front in the organization and in the media. Now they must figure out how to balance their romance.
I love how he is slowly trying to clean up his act and operate his inherited business in a legitimate fashion. Max begins to consider the morality of his past actions, when trying to find a fit in Charlottes life. Charlotte is also struggling with this personal relationship and the major conflicts with her love for a man. when every time she turns around evidence points to him it is sending her through emotional pain and it weighs on decision she must make based on the duty of her job. I love how both characters are having to change and make up their own mind and forget about what others think of their relationship and love for each other. I am loving this series and eager to see what happens next.
Chased by Moonlight didn't disappoint. This series has become one of my favorites. Max is struggling in his new position as leader, taking over for Jimmy, while maintaining his relationship with cop and lover, Catherine.
Catherine is put in a difficult position by her Godfather and boss, stop seeing Max or take herself off the latest murder case, where, surprise, Max is a suspect. She chooses to stop seeing Max while she works the case.
In the meantime, Max is struggling and needs her support and love more than ever. He continues to be her rock, while she can only think of her job and is unable to offer him the support he needs.
Max meets his long-lost father. He tells him there are people after him. He also tells him that he is stronger and more powerful that he realizes, but doesn't answer all of his questions.
