Grimsby MP Lia Nici has called for people to be sacked if anyone has lied to Boris Johnson over an alleged Christmas party held last year at Downing Street.

The Great Grimsby MP says Boris has not lost moral authority and went on to claim in an interview with Look North that there are "hundreds if not thousands of people" working at Downing Street and that their line manager should be responsible for telling the PM about any rule-breaking parties.

It came as Allegra Stratton emotionally stood down yesterday after video emerged of her and other advisers joking about Covid restrictions just days after the alleged gathering in No 10 on December 18th last year.

Since then, The Tories confirmed a separate event organised by Shaun Bailey’s failed London mayoral campaign took place in the party’s Westminster headquarters on December 14 while the capital was in Tier 2 restrictions.

According to the Times, the “raucous” party took place in the HQ’s basement, was attended by No 10 aides and featured dancing and wine-drinking into the early hours despite indoor social mixing being banned at the time.

BBC's Look North presenter Peter Levy asked Ms Nici what she has to say to people who lost out on Christmas with loved ones last year.

She said: "My heart goes out to people when the government says these are the things we need to do to keep ourselves and our society safe.

"It's really gut wrenching when we think some people may have disregarded that and had a party, we don't know there has been a party though."

Speaking up in support of the Prime Minister, the Great Grimsby MP disagreed that the PM has lost all moral authority.

She rebutted: "No I don't think he has.

"What we've got to remember is that these are civil servants that are actually officers work in Number 10, if htis has happened.

"There are hundreds if not thousands of officers at Number 10 and the PM is not walking around, checking on them. There are line managers - He [Boris] has been told there has not been a party, if there has been a party that person needs sacking. "

She said it is not a case of "do as I say, not as I do."

She explained: "I've made a complaint to the Prime Minister's office because I believe there are too many, young civil servants who are not political, who don't have enough experience of real life.

"Who are clearly, if there has been a party, making decisions that are against the law.

"We need to get that sorted now."

She finished the interview by stressing the need to take care of one another by following the latest guidelines to help reduce the spread of the virus.
