"Marky Mark and the Monkey Bunch" a.k.a. Planet of the Apes finished second with $28.5 million. The 20th Century Fox actioner was down 58% from its opening weekend. The film has made an impressive $124.7 million in two weeks.
Disney's The Princess Diaries bowed in third. I have to admit, this film did much better than I expected it to. The Anne Hathaway-Julie Andrews starrer made $23.2 million in the Friday-to-Sunday period.
JPIII added $12.1 million to its total gross. The blockbuster sequel has made $146 million in 3 weeks.
America's Sweethearts rounded out the top 5 with $8.4 million.
In 6th, Original Sin proved that even the loveliness of Antonio Banderas and Angelina Jolie aren't enough to save a bad movie. The psycho-sexual thriller opened with an extremely modest $6.4 million.
Reese Witherspoon's Legally Blonde placed 7th with just over $6 million, while Frank Oz's The Score dropped from 5th to 8th.
Bringing up the rear, Warner Bros.' Cats & Dogs was 9th with $2.3 million, barely edging out another comedy with talking animals, Dr. Dolittle 2.
