Taxonomic remark IRMNG presently recognises class Pinopsida (within superclass Gymnospermae) at the level indicated in Ruggiero et al., 2015. This is equivalent to the division (=phylum) Pinophyta in the system of Novikoff & Barabasz-Krasny, 2015, which, however, also contains the single class Pinopsida. Ruggiero et al. recognise only a single extant order, Pinales, in this class, however in IRMNG the additional extant (and fossil) orders Araucariales and Cupressales are recognised as per other recent sources, along with a number of additional, fossil-only orders.
