Fifteen candidates will be on the ballot paper when the people of Limerick take a historic vote to directly elect a Mayor on June 7th. Limerick is the first ever local authority in Ireland where the voters will be able to directly elect their Mayor, and the person who is successful will be the first mayor in the country's history to have executive powers. Learn about this new role at Limerick.ie/Mayor. Also on June 7th, 90 candidates are in the running for 40 seats in the 2024 Local Elections in Limerick taking place alongside the European Elections.
Nomination papers for the mayoral and local elections had to be submitted to Limerick City and County Council by midday on Saturday and the deadline for withdrawing nominations passed at midday today (Monday, 20 May).

A number of candidates are in the electoral races for both the new role as Mayor of Limerick and for local council. In the event that one of these candidates wins a council seat and also the mayoral contest, their council seat will be filled through a co-option. The winning candidate will nominate their replacement.
Polling will take place from 7am to 10pm on Friday June 7th,
Counting of ballots will begin on Saturday June 8th at the Limerick Count Centre at Limerick Racecourse.
