An abandoned village that formerly served as a workers' community in the 1930s has been put up for sale in New Zealand, and prospective buyers will be able to own the entire place.

Lake Waitaki Village, which sits on the edge of its eponymous lake surrounded by 14 hectares of land, is being sold by real estate agents One Agency, and boasts a main lodge as well as eight three-bedroom houses, a bar and a commercial kitchen.

According to the listing the property is currently valued at $1,270,000. That works out at approximately £651,503 for the ten buildings, which makes for quite the property ladder bargain.

Of course that's just the property value - the price will be done 'on negotiation'.

Still it would make for a pretty dreamy piece of real estate. For a start, the location is pretty spectacular, nestled in the Waitaki valley right by the breathtaking lake, surrounded by lush green forests and sweeping mountain views.

Not to mention that the lodges sit approximately a 50-minute drive from Oamaru, renowned amongst locals for being a summer hotspot offering plenty of water sports.

The historic village was first built to house Dam workers in the area back in the 1930s - at the time the village grew to accommodate over 3,000 people in a mixture of huts and houses.

The whole property is valued around £651,000 (

Nowadays it currently has nine buildings, including a main lodge with owners' accommodation, a reception area, a billiards room and a lounge.

The other eight houses boast three bedrooms, while there's also a 190sqm area which can be used as a café or bar, which comes with a full commercial kitchen.

According to the listing it sits on a popular tourist trail, so prospective buyers may be able to make use of the commercial opportunities.

Unfortunately there's a hiccup for anyone who's interested in buying the village but doesn't hold New Zealand citizenship.

Earlier this year, New Zealand passed a law which make it near-impossible for foreign citizens from buying most residential properties in a bid to combat rising house prices leaving locals unable to buy homes themselves.

Still, it's always nice to dream!
