Keya Nemesis
Bio
Ugandan-born rapper and vocalist Keya Nemesis sustained a high-profile cultural presence
in Africa shortly after he hit the music scene in 2010. He won back-to-back Battle
Rap Championships across the East African region before retiring from the competitive
circuit aged only 20 in 2014.
Since then, a string of path-breaking releases have seen Keya Nemesis win multiple
awards, notably being named twice by MTV Base in the Top Ten African Rappers in 2016
and 2017.
Among the most riveting and energetic performers operating in Uganda, he
thrives in the heat of local competition.
Keya Nemesis is fluent in Luganda, English and Swahili, and his eclectic style is both playful and quirky, aggressive and assertive.
Equally at home with classic hip hop, trap, experimental-ism and Afro-dance hall, his studio productions are in a state of permanent and sometimes radical evolution, spurred by collaborations
with a wide range of local and international producers.
His provocative and defiant style is reinforced by a rebellious imagery, while still being very much tongue-in-cheek.
The EP Abanazeeko Enfufu (translating as “The Chosen Ones”) was released in mid-2018
ahead of his European tour the same year.
By the end of 2018, chart topping releases saw him become a massively popular East African artist, set to blaze the globe with his sound, touring across Africa and Europe.
Watch out for a series of releases with a variety of innovative producers throughout 2020.
