About 250 Burlington Democrats ducked out of the cold to caucus on Sunday.
"There is a lot of excitement! I mean, we finally get to come together as the Burlington Democrats to decide who we want to see on the ballot," Stephanie Young of the Burlington Democrats said.
The party has several candidates up for city council, but the familiar face getting a lot of attention is Mayor Miro Weinberger.
"No one will work harder for the city over the next three years than i will," Weinberger said.
The incumbent mayor is running for his third term.
Weinberberger said the election will be tough, but he's not worried, even with new energy in the progressive party and two independent candidates vying for his office -- Carina Driscoll and Infinite Culcleasure.
"Elections are the lifeblood of democracy. Having other opponents is a very positive thing for the people of Burlington," he said.
Weinberger took a few jabs at Driscoll's often-used phrase "Burlington is not for sale."
"We aren't selling Burlington. We are responsibly, ambitiously and, because Burlington Democrats know how to manage the city's money right, affordably investing in our public spaces," he said.
"We've been busy with the downtown redevelopment. We've been busy with Burlington Telecom. So it's only now that Memorial Auditorium is really getting to the front burner."
Weinberger said he hopes to keep the now-closed Memorial Auditorium as a "public ally-owned, public assembly space."
But first he has to win.
Weinberger got the Democratic Party's endorsement. It's up to voters how he does on election day.
