The Gallery | Victoria Station ticket hall opens

The £700M Victoria Station upgrade project has hit a milestone with the opening of a new ticket hall.

The North ticket hall – worked on by a Taylor Woodrow/Bam Nuttall JV – leads directly from street level to the Victoria Line. The tunnels connecting North ticket hall to the district and circle lines will open in the summer.

The upgrade will finish with the South ticket hall, opening in 2018. Once complete the station will feature eight new lifts, nine new escalators and 20 new ticket gates and be double the size of the original station before work began in 2009.

“Opening the new entrance to Victoria is a huge step in the station’s modernisation project, and will make journeys easier for many thousands of customers every day,” said London Underground managing director Mark Wild.

“Once completed, the new station will enable quicker journeys, allow people to move around more easily and make the station more accessible for everyone.”

Victoria is the fourth busiest tube station and currently serves more than 82M passengers each year, linking major rail routes to the south of London with the Victoria, district and circle lines.

The modernisation work will double the size of the station, ease congestion for customers and for the first time provide step-free access.
