Utah Primary Election Results
What to watch: The most high-profile primary in Utah is the contest to replace Orrin G. Hatch as the Republican senate nominee. Mr. Hatch, who has served in the Senate since 1977, is retiring at the end of this term. Read more
The leading candidate to replace him is another longtime fixture of Republican politics: Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor and Republican presidential candidate who is eager to restart his political career.
Mr. Romney was forced to compete in the primary because he failed to win more than 50 percent of the vote at the Utah Republican convention in April, an embarrassing result for a former presidential candidate.
Nevertheless, Mr. Romney is expected to defeat his opponent, a state senator named Mike Kennedy.
