Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS)

CAPS provides short-term therapy, psychiatry, group programming, consultation, and community referrals. Services are free, as the center itself is funded through tuition. We offer a hybrid model that allows the student meet in person or virtually.

Services Offered

  • Walk-In Services | Monday-Friday 9-11AM & 1-3PM 
    A counselor will briefly meet with you to discuss your urgent situation and work with you to identify supports and referrals. Same-day walk-in assessments are first-come-first-serve.
  • Individual and Couples Counseling
    We provide short-term individual and couples counseling for students experiencing a wide range of concerns. Counseling sessions are 50 minutes.
  • Groups & Support Spaces
    In groups, students have the advantages of building community with others who share concerns, experiences, and/or goals. Meetings range between 50-80 minutes. See our offerings for Fall 2024
  • Uwill
    UWill Logo CAPS partnered with UWill to offer teletherapy options to all students, use your OCC email to sign up here!
  • Psychiatric Services
    Psychiatrists are available three days a week to provide assessment and medication monitoring. Oberlin College contracts with University Hospitals of Cleveland to provide psychiatric services. 
  • Consultation Services
    While maintaining confidentiality regarding the students that we work with, the CAPS staff welcomes consultations with faculty, staff, parents, and students who have concerns about someone else.
  • Case-Management/Referrals
    We facilitate referrals to support services on and off campus.  Please see our Community Resources page for more information regarding local providers.
  • Educational Outreach, Workshops, and Presence at Events
    We offer a variety of activities and educational programs for students, faculty, staff regarding mental health concerns.  If you would like to request an educational presentation, CAPS presence at tabling or at an event, please use this form
