Maria Isabel Barroso Salgado Alencar, known as Isabel, was a Brazilian volleyball player and coach. Beginning her career with indoor volleyball Isabel later became a pioneer of beach volleyball. Isabel made her début for Flamengo in 1973 when she was 13 and was called up to the Brazilian youth team three years later. In 1979 Isabel was part of the Brazilian team that won the bronze medal at the 1979 Pan American Games. The following year she became the first Brazilian volleyball player to play professionally in a foreign league when she played in Italy.
Isabel was part of the Brazilian volleyball team that competed at the 1980 Moskva Olympics and the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. At both Olympic Games the Brazilian team finished in seventh place. In the early 1990s Isabel began to play beach volleyball, playing in the local and world circuit between 1993 and 2001. Her son Pedro Solberg played beach volleyball for Brazil at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
