WHEN I WAS SILENT
Barry Green Jr 1973 (Florida)
WHEN I WAS SILENT
In the past, I quiet walked
Name of Christ, I kept locked
Back then, ya know, ever I went
My lips were sealed, I was silent
Now you see, by pen and voice
I shout “JESUS!” and rejoice!
I tell you, I never feel shame
Of the Lord, nor Jesus name
Once upon a time I was silent
Seemed easier as days went
Observing all, judging all
You know, I didn't talk at all
But now I Praise Him in all I do
What's more, I call out to you
Come on let's let Jesus be known
So we break those hearts of stone
I weep, at all the time I spent
Back in the days I was silent
Deny Him not, in action or deed
But the witness was not my speed
I tell ya now, you'll hear His name
Day or night, rain or shine all the Same
I'll tell you of the one who died for me
JESUS! Way back on Calvary
So now they tell me to be quiet
No, I think maybe I'll cause a riot
Riotous praise right from my soul
In Jesus name let's Rock and roll!
They tell me this, tell me that
Brother I'll tell You He's at
The heart of all I think and do
Jesus! All my praise goes to you!
Listen close, listen now, I'm DONE!
Being silent about God's only Son
I'll tell you here, I'll tell you there
And I'll tell all the people everywhere
Don't waste time, soon it's all spent
No witness is made if you're silent
See the Apostles spoke Jesus always
So shout His name in these last Days
Don't shut your mouth, let it all out
Tell the people what God's about
Redeem the time as He's redeemed us
Tell the world all about Jesus
Amen
About this poem
37 When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen: 38 “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!”[a] “Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” 39 Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!” 40 “I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.” Luke 19:37-40
