After months of teasing, we finally have a title and release date for pop star Britney Spears’ long-awaited memoir.
The buzzed-about story of the “Womanizer” singer’s life is titled The Woman in Me and is slated to be released October 24, 2023.
The memoir is being published by Gallery Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, who won the rights after a fierce bidding war over the tell-all book. The deal was struck earlier this year, just months after the end of Spears’ 13-year-long conservatorship which stripped the artist of her right to make her own decisions about her finances, career and health.
“Britney’s compelling testimony in open court shook the world, changed laws, and showed her inspiring strength and bravery,” Jennifer Bergstrom, Gallery Books Senior Vice President and Publisher, told People. “I have no doubt her memoir will have a similar impact — and will be the publishing event of the year. We couldn’t be more proud to help her share her story at last.”
The conservatorship, which gave her father Jamie Spears control over almost all aspects of her life (including what medications to take), sparked the viral #FreeBritney movement among her ardent fans. Still, the pop star has yet to tell the full story of this harrowing experience. “I’ve been in shock. I am traumatized,” Spears said during open testimony at her conservatorship trial. “I just want my life back.”
According to a press release from Gallery Books, The Woman in Me promises to be revealing and will highlight Spears’ “incredible journey” as well as “the importance of a woman telling her own story, on her own terms.”
The memoir is “a brave and astonishingly moving story about freedom, fame, motherhood, survival, faith, and hope,” the press release continues.
After having her rights and freedoms ripped away from her by an unjust conservatorship, Spears is finally taking her life and story back into her own hands and we can’t wait to read all about it!
