Rio 2016: Elaine Thompson wins gold medal in women's 200m run

The Jamaican matched her gold in the 100 with a win in the 200.

Elaine Thompson cannot be beaten. After winning the 100 meters, Thompson became the first female athlete since Florence Griffith-Joyner to win the 100-200 double by running away with the 200 meters on Wednesday night with a time of 21.78.

Dafne Schippers of the Netherlands, who won the world title in 2015, finished in the silver medal position. Tori Bowie of the U.S., who won silver in the 100, came in third to win bronze.

Schippers, who is the third-fastest 200 runner of all time, ran 21.88 to finish second. She nearly reeled in Thompson, but just didn't have enough in the race's final moments to overtake sprinting's newest star.

Thompson won the 100 meters in 10.71, and ran away with another title in Rio on Wednesday. She has established herself as the best sprinter in the world -- and she'll have another opportunity to add more hardware to her medal collection in the women's 4x100m with her Jamaican teammates on Friday.
