DVD Releases for August 8, 2006

August 7th, 2006

According Amazon, there are nearly 900 DVDs being released this week, half of which are episodes of Charlie Rose. Even if we ignored those releases, it was still a busy week, especially at the high end with several contenders for DVD Pick of the Week. In the end I could narrow it down to three selection, Brick - Buy from Amazon, CSA: The Confederate States of America - Buy from Amazon and Inside Man - Buy from Amazon. But I couldn't decide between those so all three earn the title: DVD Pick of the Week. More...

Per Theatre Charts - No Stranger to Success

July 6th, 2006

Strangers With Candy easily led the per theatre charts this weekend with just over $43,000 in 2 theatres for an average of $21,571. Since it debuted on Wednesday, the film has made almost $70,000. Second place went to the overall box office champ, Superman Returns, which pulled in a solid average $12,924 of over the three-day weekend. Last week's winner was the only holdover to reach $10,000 average as Wassup Rockers brought in nearly $35,000 on 3 screens for an average of $11,570. More...

Army of Newcomers on the Per Theatre Charts

May 2nd, 2006

There were three films in the $10,000 club, and all of them were new releases led by Army of Shadows with $12,620 in its lone theatre. In second place was the Canadian / India co-production, Water, which earned $56,000 in five theatres for an average of $11,256. The final film was The Lost City with and average of $10,642 in 18 theatres. More...

Friends with More Money

April 11th, 2006

Friends with Money easily led the per theatre charts after earning nearly $600,000 in 28 theatres for an average of $21,048. It was the only film to top $10,000 on the per theatre charts, although last week's winner, Brick came awfully close with $9,490 in 21 theatres. More...

Solid as a Brick Art House

April 4th, 2006

We have a new leader on the per theatre charts as Brick opened with more than $80,000 in just 2 theatres for a per theatre average of $41,787. This bodes very well for this Friday's planned expansion and the film is nearly guaranteed some measure of mainstream success. That can't be said for the second place movie, Drawing Restraint 9; even though the film earned $18,011 in its lone theatre, it is destined to spend it time on the art house circuit by its very nature. Next up is the overall box office leader, Ice Age: The Meltdown with an average of $17,163; it will be interesting to see if it can repeat in the $10,000 club next weekend. Finally, we have Thank You for Smoking, the only holdover to top $10,000 per theatre. During its third week of release the film more than doubled it theatre count but its per theatre average remained solid at $12,749. More...

Limited Releases: Hitting a Brick Wall

Movie Website Updates for March 24 - March 30

March 30th, 2006

Another week with less sites than I would have liked. (On a side note, it seems every time something weird happens it happens on a Thursday. Movie Website Updates for February 17 - February 23

February 23rd, 2006

During the past week promotional websites for several movies were launched and some older ones added additional content. Just when I thought the slump was over, we have the shortest list in a few weeks. The best site of the week was Brick - Official Site, which helped sell the movie well and that is the most important job of a movie site. More...

Movie Website Updates for February 10 - February 16

February 16th, 2006

During the past week promotional websites for several movies were launched and some older ones added additional content. It's another busy week as the winter slump starts to subside. As for the best site on this week's list, it came down to the interactive feature of Freedomland - Official Site and the atmosphere of Night Watch - Official Site. After looking over the sites a few times, I still can't decided which one should get the award, so I'm giving it to both. More...

February 9th, 2006

During the past week promotional websites for several movies were launched and some older ones added additional content. It was the busiest week in more than a month, but there weren't many big launches or massive updates, so it is the slow-growing V For Vendetta - Official Site that earns the Weekly Website Award. January 12th, 2006
