DVD Rentals - Chuck Does Good

January 28th, 2008

A pair of new releases topped the rental chart with Good Luck Chuck edging out Mr. Woodcock $11.61 million to $10.01 million. More...

DVD Releases for January 15, 2008

January 14th, 2008

The early year doldrums continue on the home market front. Even though there are plenty of releases, including eight spotlight reviews, there are none that really jump out as Contenders for DVD Pick of the Week. Family Guy - Blue Harvest Special Edition could be called the best of a weak bunch, but odds are everything the disc will be included in a future release that will be a lot more competitively priced. (On the other hand, if you want the cool physical extras, grab the Limited Edition release.) More...

DVD Releases for January 8, 2008

January 8th, 2008

We are back to a relatively normal level of DVD releases this week, including a few that are worth considering for DVD Pick of the Week. Both 3:10 to Yuma on Blu-Ray and The Riches - Season 1 on DVD are prime contenders. If you don't have Blu-Ray, it's the latter, while if you do, it's the former. More...

Contest - Perfect Ten

January 4th, 2008

As it will become very clear, very fast, the name of this week's contest, Perfect Ten, refers to the prizes and not the target film, which is In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale. A Dungeon Siege Tale is the widest release next week, but I can't imagine it will be the number one film. In fact, I think it will earn a negative box office. I'm not sure how, but it will... In order to win the contest, however, one must simply predict the film's opening weekend box office (no negative numbers allowed). Whoever comes the closest to predicting the film's opening 3-day weekend box office (Friday to Sunday), without going over, will win a poster from In the Name of the King signed by director Uwe Bolle, plus a copy of The Ten on DVD. Meanwhile, whoever comes the closest to predicting the film's opening 3-day weekend box office (Friday to Sunday), without going under, will win a signed In the Name of the King poster, plus a copy of The Last Legion on DVD. Entries must be received by 10 a.m., Pacific Time on Friday to be eligible, so don't delay! More...

Ultimatum Alone on Top of the Per Theater Chart

August 7th, 2007

The Bourne Ultimatum was the only film to top $10,000 on the per theater chart this week, earning an impressive $18,930, which was close to double its nearest competition. But, while there was only one member of the $10,000 club, a few films came very close, including Becoming Jane with $9,721, which is even more impressive with a theater count of 100. It is also more than enough to guarantee expansion. More...

Movie Website Updates for July 29 - August 4, 2007

August 5th, 2007

Another big list of movie sites, but not much in the way of top-notch entries. For a movie site to be an award winner, I expect it to have all of the usual features, extras like clips, something interactive like a game, and background sound and animation. The film that best exemplifies that criteria is Stardust - Official Site, which is the winner of the Weekly Website Award. More...

Limited Releases are Very Becoming

August 3rd, 2007

Ten limited releases on this week's list, which can be evenly divided into those that are opening exclusively, or nearly exclusively, and those opening in a couple of dozen theaters or more. Oddly, nearly all of the exclusive releases are earning amazing reviews while most of the wider releases are not. That many theaters is usually too much for a limited release, and there are a couple that seem destined to fail because of their release strategy. More...

Movie Website Updates for June 10 - June 16, 2007

June 17th, 2007

There weren't as many websites on this week's list as in the past few weeks, but there were at least three that earned some consideration for the Weekly Website Award. In the end, that honor went to I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry - Official Site. More...

Movie Website Updates for June 3 - June 9, 2007

June 9th, 2007

There are a lot of movies on this week's list, but many have just the synopsis, image gallery, and the trailer, and many don't even have that. There were very few that stood out, but at least Speed Racer - Official Site got off to a great start. Perhaps it will win the award before it hits theaters. More...

Movie Website Updates for February 3 - February 9, 2007

February 9th, 2007

Still waiting sites for the big summer blockbusters to come online. In the meantime, this week is relatively busy, but with only a couple sites that look like they could be award-worthy once the features are added. The best of the best, and I use that term loosely, is Norbit - Official Site with a site that could be more entertaining than the movie it promotes. More...
