For years, fans have kept an eye out for all of the special jewelry pieces that Meghan Markle has inherited from her mother-in-law Princess Diana. From the aquamarine cocktail ring she wore to her and Prince Harry's wedding reception in 2018 to the diamond bracelet she wore for the Sussexes's bombshell interview with Oprah, Meghan is often seen in baubles that pay homage to the late princess. Easily one of the most recognizable, yet also the most debated, is the frequent appearance of a particularly iconic timepiece on her wrist: the Cartier Tank Française watch.

Over the years, Princess Diana was seen numerous times in her gold Cartier watch including on a 1997 visit to London's Shri Swaminarayan Mandir Hindu Temple and an engagement at the British Lung Foundation that same year. While it's never been officially confirmed that the elegant timepiece was handed down to Meghan, since she and Prince Harry wed, she's also been spotted wearing a version that appears identical to Diana's, leading to speculation that the duchess is, indeed, wearing that very same watch.

Meghan is known to be a fan of the Tank watch, and even bought herself a two-tone version back in her pre-royal days. As the then-actress told Hello back in 2015, "I’ve always coveted the Cartier French Tank watch. When I found out Suits had been picked up for our third season—which, at the time, felt like such a milestone—I totally splurged and bought the two-tone version. I had it engraved on the back, 'To M.M. From M.M.' and I plan to give it to my daughter one day. That’s what makes pieces special, the connection you have to them."
