Use of spaces in identifiers

[edit]

At the moment there is a bug that identifiers only work with spaces. Neither pluses nor HTML can be used - such links will not work. However, this is slightly at odds with what was stated in the examples of proposal (it's working this way as wikitext, but it's not working as property value). The original submitter @Shisma few months ago replaced all such values with spaces by pluses, created a ticket on Phabricator to report the bug: https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T280174, and said that it should stay this way until the ticket is resolved. Because of this replacement, all IDs are broken and cannot be opened at the moment (https://www.wikidata.org/w/index.php?title=Q213121&type=revision&diff=1401634344&oldid=1401631345). This also caused discrepancies with the mix-n-match catalogue: https://mix-n-match.toolforge.org/#/sync/4370 - 250+ of them are broken, and at the same time it interferes with the finding of existing errors. I was hoping it would be fixed within a couple of months, but the ticket has not received any attention at all during that time. So I propose to return all values to spaces to make the links work again and at the same time make Mix'n'match function properly. And then make further changes when the ticket will be resolved. Or we fix the mix'n'match catalog and the only thing that remains wrong is what wikibase makes of it Shisma (talk) 16:01, 10 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This may not be fixed for years - and none of such links will be working all that time. Some people may perceive it as a mistake and delete them. So I still prefer to use links as they are working on WD. Solidest (talk) 16:30, 10 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Anyway, if there are no substantiated objections I will return all identifiers to working form later today. Solidest (talk) 05:48, 13 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
RYM recently updated the genre pages and changed the identifiers. Now they are without spaces, but variations with spaces also work and redirect to the right place, as well as recently changed identifiers now also do not give 404 but redirect to the new name. It's probably worth changing everything to the new look and completely replacing the MNM directory. Solidest (talk) 13:47, 2 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
