3-letter codes

[edit]

As far as I can tell, this is WCF's own codes. It's not IOC (e.g. England = ENG, Scotland = SCO, Wales = WAL, none are in IOC). It's not FIFA (e.g. US Virgin Island = ISV, not VIR; Kosovo is KOS, not KVX; Latvia is LAT, not LVA; Mongolia is MGL not MNG; Nigeria is NGR, not NGA; Slovenia is SLO, not SVN).

OK so it looks like it's IOC & FIFA combined, with IOC superseding FIFA. In short, it's IOC, except for England, Scotland & Wales, where WCF uses FIFA. I'm not sure how common that logic is in sport. Maybe WCF just uses the first 3 letters of the country name, regardless of FIFA. when there's no IOC code. For now I'm just going to assume that WCF can assign whatever code they want.
