Mating/Copulation

Flirt before copulation. The male produces a low call, that resembles the song but has a few more notes, during some minuts. Then he starts singing (one note male!) an one can hear sporadic soliciting calls från the female in the background before she also sings. This will culminate in mating (not in the recording).

• Recorded from a distance of >900m.

General observations:

• Coniferous vegetation along cliffside >80m above the shore.

• Moonlight, slightly cloudy.

• Temperature: -5°C/23°F. Northwesterly wind, calm to light breeze (0-2 mp/s).

Other distinguishable species:

• Common Goldeneye, Bucephala clangula, flight call, at 0:07 (vaguely)
