John Lindsay, 6th Earl of Crawford was the son of David Lindsay, 1st Duke of Montrose and Elizabeth Hamilton.1 He married Mariota Home, daughter of Alexander Home, 2nd Lord Home and Nichole Ker, between January 1493 and August 1493.1 He died on 9 September 1513 at Flodden Field, Northumberland, EnglandG, killed in action, without legitimate issue.1 He was buried at Dundee, Angus, ScotlandG.2
He succeeded as the 6th Earl of Crawford [S., 1398] on 25 December 1495.1 He held the office of a Governor from Tay to Shetland in 1503.1 In 1509 he mortgaged the Shrievalty of Aberdeen to William, Earl of Erroll.1 He fought in the Battle of Flodden on 9 September 1513.1

David Lindsay, 8th Earl of Crawford was the son of Alexander Lindsay of Auchtermonzie, 7th Earl of Crawford and Isobel Campbell.1 He married, firstly, Lady Elizabeth Hay, daughter of William Hay, 3rd Earl of Erroll and Lady Elizabeth Leslie, before 6 November 1500.1 He married, secondly, Catherine Stirling after 1511.1 He married, thirdly, Isobel Lundie, daughter of Sir Robert Lundie of Balgonie and Jean Lindsay, before 1526.1 He died on 27 November 1542 at Cairnie Castle, Auchtermonzie, ScotlandG.1
He was appointed Knight before 1512.1 He succeeded as the 8th Earl of Crawford [S., 1398] in May 1517.1 On 16 October 1541 he conveyed the Earldom (subject to his own life interest) to his cousin and next male heir, David Lindsay of Edzell.1
