We study the existence of BPS configurations in a restricted baby Skyrme-Maxwell enlarged via the inclusion of a nontrivial magnetic permeability. In order to attain such a goal, we use the Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield prescription, which allows us to obtain the lower bound for the energy and the BPS equations whose [electrically neutral] solutions saturate that bound. During the energy minimization procedure, we find a differential constraint which involves the self-dual potential, the superpotential itself and also the magnetic permeability. In order to solve the BPS system, we focus our attention on those solutions with rotational symmetry. For that, we fix the magnetic permeability and select two BPS potentials which exhibit a similar behavior near to the vacuum. We depict the resulting profiles and proceed to an analytical description of the properties of the BPS magnetic field. Furthermore, we consider some essential aspects of our model, such as the conditions for the overall existence of the BPS solutions, and how the permeability affects the magnetic flux. Finally, we present a family of exact BPS solutions.

We examine the oscillon decay in a model with a single scalar field and two asymmetric fundamental states. Specifically, we verify how the evolution of an initially excited oscillon leads to the formation of antikink-kink pairs in the presence of a centered long-lived pulse. In such a context, the magnitude of the original perturbation stands for the most important factor influencing the process. For intermediary values of this magnitude, we find a transitory behavior which suggests that the energy exchange between translational and vibrational modes begins to play an important role in the overall evolution. As the magnitude increases, the centered pulse intermediates an interaction between the inner structures which compose the pairs whose behavior mimics that of a standard antikink-kink collision and therefore reinforces the role played by the energy transfer mechanism. We depict the resulting resonant structure and note that it mimics that of an usual kink-antikink scattering. We also reproduce some of our results now via an initial lumplike perturbation proposed as a kink-antikink pair. For different values of width, {\it{an almost pure}} antikink-kink pair escapes to the infinity after multiple bounces.

The implementation of the Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield's technique provides the BPS potential and the self-dual equations whose solutions saturate the Bogomol'nyi bound. In such a context, we look for vortices in two chiral media: the first one engenders localized vortices with an exponential decay similar to that of the Abrikosov-Nielsen-Olesen solutions, whereas the second medium generates delocalized profiles whose tail follows a power-law decay. Once we have solved the BPS systems, we comment on the effects induced by the presence of the chiral medium on the Maxwell-Higgs vortices.

We investigate the existence of vortex configurations in two gauged-$CP(2)$ models extended via the inclusion of magnetic impurities. In particular, we consider both the Maxwell-$CP(2)$ and the Chern-Simons-$CP(2)$ enlarged scenarios, separately. We choose a $CP(2)$-field configuration with a null topological charge not only in the simplest (free) case, but also when coupled to an Abelian gauge field. The implementation of the Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield (BPS) formalism shows that the effective models for such a configuration possess a self-dual structure which looks like those inherent to the gauged sigma models. Therefore, when the $CP(2)$ field is coupled to the Maxwell term, the corresponding total energy possesses both a well-defined Bogomol'nyi bound and a quantized magnetic flux. Further, when the $CP(2)$ scenario is gauged with the Chern-Simons action, the total electric charge is verified to be proportional to the quantized magnetic flux. In addition, the analysis verifies that the magnetic impurity contributes to the BPS potentials and appears in both the models' BPS equations. Next, we introduce a Gaussian type impurity and solve the self-dual equations via a finite-difference scheme. The resulting solutions present a nonmonotonic behavior that flips both the magnetic and electric fields. Finally, we discuss the topologically trivial solutions in the limit for which the impurity becomes a Dirac $δ$-function.

For both cases, we focus our attention on the time-independent configurations with radial symmetry which can be obtained through the implementation of the so-called Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield (BPS) prescription. In this sense, in order to solve the corresponding first-order differential equations, we introduce some particular scenarios which are driven by the source field whose presence, we expect, must change the way the resulting vortices behave. After solving the effective first-order system through a finite-difference algorithm, we comment about the main new effects induced by the presence of the source field in the shape of the final configurations.

We implement the corresponding first-order scenario by proceeding the minimization of the total energy, this way introducing the corresponding energy lower-bound, such a construction being only possible due to a differential constraint including the dielectric function itself and the self-interacting potential defining the model. We saturate the aforementioned bound by focusing our attention on those solutions fulfilling a particular set of two coupled first-order differential equations. In the sequel, in order to solve these equations, we choose the dielectric function explicitly, also calculating the corresponding self-interacting potential. We impose appropriate boundary conditions supporting nontopological solitons, from which we verify that the energy of final structures is proportional to the magnetic flux they engender, both quantities being not quantized, as expected. We have shown the existence of self-dual solutions in new Maxwell-Higgs scenarios where the gauge field possesses a $k$-generalized dynamic, i.e., the kinetic term of gauge field is a highly nonlinear function of $F_{μν}F^{μν}$. We have implemented our proposal by means of a $k$-generalized model displaying the spontaneous symmetry breaking phenomenon. We implement consistently the Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield formalism providing highly nonlinear self-dual equations whose solutions are electrically neutral possessing total energy proportional to the magnetic flux. Among the infinite set of possible configurations, we have found families of $k$-generalized models whose self-dual equations have a form mathematically similar to the ones arising in the Maxwell-Higgs or Chern-Simons-Higgs models. Furthermore, we have verified that our proposal also supports infinite twinlike models with $|φ|^4$-potential or $|φ|^6$-potential. With the aim to show explicitly that the BPS equations are able to provide well-behaved configurations, we have considered a test model in order to study axially symmetric vortices. By depending of the self-dual potential, we have shown that the $k$-generalized model is able to produce solutions that for long distances have a exponential decay (as Abrikosov-Nielsen-Olesen vortices) or have a power-law decay (characterizing delocalized vortices). In all cases, we observe that the generalization modifies the vortex core size, the magnetic field amplitude and the bosonic masses but the total energy remains proportional to the quantized magnetic flux.

A consistent BPS formalism to study the existence of topological axially symmetric vortices in generalized versions of the Born-Infeld-Higgs electrodynamics is implemented. Such a generalization modifies the field dynamics via introduction of three non-negative functions depending only in the Higgs field, namely, $G(|φ|)$, $w(|φ|) $ and $V(|φ|)$. A set of first-order differential equations is attained when these functions satisfy a constraint related to the Ampere law. Such a constraint allows to minimize the system energy in such way that it becomes proportional to the magnetic flux. Our results provides an enhancement of topological vortex solutions in Born-Infeld-Higgs electrodynamics. Finally, we analyze a set of models such that a generalized version of Maxwell-Higgs electrodynamics is recovered in a certain limit of the theory.

We use a recent {\it on-shell} Bogomol'nyi method, developed in~\cite{Atmaja:2014fha}, to construct Bogomol'nyi equations of the two-dimensional generalized Maxwell-Higgs model~\cite{Bazeia:2012uc}. The formalism can generate a large class of Bogomol'nyi equations parametrized by a constant $C_0$. The resulting equations are classified into two types, determined by $C_0=0$ and $C_0\neq0$. We identify that the ones obtained by Bazeia {\it et al}~\cite{Bazeia:2012uc} are of the type $C_0=0$. We also reveal, as in the case of ordinary vortex, that this theory does not admit Bogomol'nyi equations in the Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield limit in its spectrum. However, when the vacuum energy is lifted up by adding some constant to the energy density then the existence of such equation is possible. Another possibility whose energy is equal to the vacuum is also discussed in brief. As a future of the \textit{on-shell} method, we find another new Bogomol'nyi equations, for $C_0\neq0$, which are related to a non-trivial function defined as a difference between energy density of potential term of the scalar field and kinetic term of the gauge field.

We have established a prescription for the calculation of analytical vortex solutions in the context of generalized Maxwell-Higgs models whose overall dynamics is controlled by two positive functions of the scalar field. We have also determined a natural constraint between these functions and the Higgs potential allowing the existence of axially symmetric Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield (BPS) solutions possessing finite energy. Furthermore, when the generalizing functions are chosen suitably, the nonstandard BPS equations can be solved exactly. We have studied some examples, comparing them with the usual Abrikosov-Nielsen-Olesen (ANO) solution. The overall conclusion is that the analytical self-dual vortices are well-behaved in all relevant sectors, strongly supporting the generalized models they belong themselves. In particular, our results mimic well-known properties of the usual (numerical) configurations, as localized energy density, while contributing to the understanding of topological solitons and their description by means of analytical methods.

We point out that this fact may be understood as a simple consequence of an appropriately generalised notion of self-duality. We show that this self-duality framework enables us to generalize to higher dimensions the construction of new solitons from already known solutions. By performing simple field transformations our procedure allows us to relate solitons with different topological properties. Such solutions are magnetic monopoles satisfying Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield (BPS) equations and usual finite energy boundary conditions. Moreover, the new solutions are classified in two different types according to their capability of recovering (or not) the usual 't Hooft--Polyakov monopole. Finally, we compare the profiles of the solutions we found with the standard ones, from which we comment about the main features exhibited by the new configurations.

Abstract:
We show the existence of Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield (BPS) magnetic monopoles in a generalized Yang-Mills-Higgs model which is controlled by two positive functions. This effective model, in principle, would describe the dynamics of the nonabelian fields in a chromoelectric media. This effective model, in principle, would describe the dynamics of the nonabelian fields in a chromoelectric media. We check the consistency of our generalized construction by analyzing an explicit case ruled by a real parameter. We also use the well-known spherically symmetric Ansatz to attain the corresponding self-dual equations describing the topological solutions. The overall conclusion is that the new solutions behave around the canonical one, with smaller or greater characteristic length.

Abstract:
We demonstrate for the first the existence of electrically charged BPS vortices in a Maxwell-Higgs model supplemented with a parity-odd Lorentz-violating (LV) structure belonging to the CPT-even gauge sector of the standard model extension and a fourth order potential (in the absence of the Chern-Simons term). The modified first order BPS equations provide charged vortex configurations endowed with some interesting features: localized and controllable spatial thickness, integer flux quantization, electric field inversion and localized magnetic flux reversion. This model could possibly be applied on condensed matter systems which support charged vortices carrying integer quantized magnetic flux, endowed with localized flipping of the magnetic flux.

Abstract:
We present a consistent BPS framework for a generalized Maxwell-Chern-Simons-Higgs model. The overall model, including its self-dual potential, depends on three different functions, h(|φ|,N), w(|φ|) and G(|φ|), which are functions of the scalar fields only. The BPS energy is proportional to the magnetic flux when w(|φ|) and G(|φ|) are related to each other by a differential constraint. We present…

The BPS energy is proportional to the magnetic flux when w(|φ|) and G(|φ|) are related to each other by a differential constraint. We present an explicit non-standard model and its topologically non-trivial static configurations, which are described by the usual radially symmetric profile. Finally, we note that the non-standard results behave in a similar way as their standard counterparts, as expected, reinforcing the consistence of the overall construction.

In this work we present a theoretical framework that allows for the existence of coherent twinlike models in the context of self-dual Maxwell-Higgs theories. We verify the consistence of this framework by using it to develop some twinlike self-dual Maxwell-Higgs models. We use a combination of theoretical and numerical techniques to show that these models exhibit the very same topological BPS structures, including their field configurations and total energy. The study shows that it is possible to develop a completely consistent prescription, which extends the idea of twinlike models to the case of vortices in Maxwell-Higgs theories.

We have investigated and verified the existence of stable uncharged Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfeld (BPS) vortices in the framework of an Abelian Maxwell-Higgs model supplemented with CPT-even and Lorentz-violating (LV) terms belonging to the gauge and Higgs sectors of the standard model extension. The analysis is performed in two situations: first, one by considering the Lorentz violation only in the gauge sector and then in both gauge and Higgs sectors. In the first case, it is observed that the model supports vortices somehow equivalent to the ones appearing in a dielectric medium. The Lorentz violation controls the radial extension (core of the solution) and the magnetic field amplitude of the Abrikosov-Nielsen-Olesen vortices, yielding compactlike defects in an alternative and simpler way than that of $k-$field models. At the end, we consider the Lorentz-violating terms in the gauge and Higgs sectors. It is shown that the full model also supports compactlike uncharged BPS vortices in a modified vacuum, but this time there are two LV parameters controlling the defect structure. Moreover, an interesting novelty is introduced by the LV-Higgs sector: fractional vortex solutions.

We numerically solve the equations of motion and depict the main vortex features, for several values of the two parameters of the model. The results indicate the presence of compact vortex, when the parameter responsible for the high-order power in the derivative increases to sufficiently large values.
