Light-by-Light Scattering in the Presence of Magnetic Fields
Abstract: The low-energy light-by-light cross section as determined by the nonlinear Euler-Heisenberg QED Lagrangian is evaluated in the presence of constant magnetic fields in the center-of-mass system of the colliding photons. This cross section has a complicated dependence on directions and polarizations. The overall magnitude decreases as the magnetic field is increased from zero, but this trend is reve… ▽ More

Production of Prompt Photons: Holographic Duality and Thermalization
Abstract: We study the production of prompt photons in strongly coupled out-of-equilibrium Super Yang-Mills plasma using the AdS/CFT correspondence. Holographic dilepton production in a thermalizing plasma
Abstract: We determine the out-of-equilibrium production rate of dileptons at rest in strongly coupled N=4 Super Yang-Mills plasma using the AdS/CFT correspondence. Jet quenching and broadening: the transport coefficient $\hat{q}$ in an anisotropic plasma
Abstract: The jet quenching parameter $\hat{q}$ is analyzed for a quark jet propagating in an anisotropic plasma. The momentum anisotropy is calculated at high temperature of the underlying quark-gluon plasma. $\hat{q}$ is explicitly estimated in leading-logarithmic approximation by the broadening of the massless quark interacting via gluon exchange. Induced Gluon Radiation in a QCD Medium
Abstract: Soft gluon radiation induced by multiple scattering of a fast quark or gluon propagating through QCD matter is discussed. After revisiting the Landau-Pomeranchuk-Migdal effect in QED we show that large formation times of bremsstrahlung quanta determine the QCD radiation intensity (in analogy to QED) and derive the gluon energy spectrum. Coherent suppression takes place as compared to the Bethe-H… ▽ More

On the Damping Rate of a Fast Fermion in Hot QED
Abstract: The self-consistent determination of the damping rate of a fast moving fermion in a hot QED plasma is reexamined. We argue how a detailed investigation of the analytic properties of the retarded fermion Green's function motivated by the cutting rules at finite temperature may resolve ambiguities related to the proper definition of the mass-shell condition.

The Nonabelian Screening Potential Beyond the Leading Order
Abstract: The nonabelian screening potential is calculated in the temporal axial gauge. The Slavnov-Taylor identity is used to construct the three-gluon vertex function from the inverse gluon propagator. After solving the Schwinger - Dyson equation beyond leading order we find that the obtained momentum dependence of the gluon self-energy at high temperature does not correspond to an attractive QCD - Deby… ▽ More

Perturbative Hot Gauge Theories - Recent Results
Abstract: Current results in high temperature gauge theories obtained in the context of the perturbative method of resumming hard thermal loops are reviewed. Beyond leading order properties of the gluon excitation, and the recent (controversial) calculations of the damping rates are discussed. QCD predictions on plasma signatures are exemplified by the thermal production rates of energetic as well as soft… ▽ More

Soft Photon Production Rate in Resummed Perturbation Theory of High Temperature QCD
Abstract: We calculate the production rate of soft real photons from a hot quark -- gluon plasma using Braaten -- Pisarski's perturbative resummation method. To leading order in the QCD coupling constant $g$ we find a logarithmically divergent result for photon energies of order $gT$, where $T$ is the plasma temperature. This divergent behaviour is due to unscreened mass singularities in the effective har… ▽ More

Analytic Continuation of Thermal $N$-Point Functions from Imaginary- to Real-Energies
Abstract: We consider thermal $n$-point Green functions in the framework of quantum field theory at finite temperature. We show how analytic continuations from imaginary to real energies relate these functions originally defined in the imaginary-time formalism to retarded and advanced real-time ones. The described method is valid to all orders of perturbation theory. It has the further advantage that it i… ▽ More

Gauge Dependence of the Resummed Thermal Gluon Self Energy
Abstract: The gauge dependence of the hot gluon self energy is examined in the context of Pisarski's method for resumming hard thermal loops. Braaten and Pisarski have used the Ward identities satisfied by the hard corrections to the n-point functions to argue the gauge fixing independence of the leading order resummed QCD plasma damping rate in covariant and strict Coulomb gauges. We extend their analysi… ▽ More
