Mark Kersey was a member of the San Diego City Council in California, representing District 5. Kersey assumed office in 2012. Kersey left office on December 14, 2020.

Kersey ran for re-election to the San Diego City Council to represent District 5 in California. Kersey won in the general election on June 7, 2016.

Kersey was first elected in 2012.[1] Kersey could not file to run for re-election in 2020 due to term limits.[2]

Kersey won re-election in 2016. He won the seat in the primary election on June 7, 2016.

Although elections for the San Diego City Council are officially nonpartisan, Kersey is known to be a member of the Republican Party.[3]

The only races where no candidate won a majority (50 percent plus one) of the votes cast in the primary advanced to the election on November 8, 2016. The November election was called a general election, but it was functionally a runoff election. Incumbent Mark Kersey defeated Fotios Tsimboukakis and Keith Mikas in the primary election for San Diego City Council District 5.
