Condition of Units

Habitat name Responsible officer Feature name Unit Id Area (ha) NNR overlapping area (ha) Assessment date Assessment description Comment Adverse condition reasons
CALCAREOUS GRASSLAND - Lowland Phil Williams 001 1006550 9.1732 0.00 05/07/2012 Unfavourable - Recovering Unit in HLS. Herb rich sward, hawkbit, fairy flax, milkwort, salad burnet, thyme, rock rose, squinancywort. Marble white. Meeting criteria apart from scrub regeneration which is an issue, cotoneaster is a potential risk factor on the unit.
CALCAREOUS GRASSLAND - Lowland Phil Williams 002 1006551 5.4878 0.00 07/11/2012 Unfavourable - Recovering This unit is not reaching targets for the following variables: Cover of trees and scrub (target is less than 5%), proportion of grass to herbs (target is 40 to 90% herbs), and sward height (target is average between 2cm and 15cm).
CALCAREOUS GRASSLAND - Lowland Phil Williams 003 1006552 11.6649 0.00 05/07/2012 Favourable Unit in HLS. Herb rich sward;fairy flx, common bird's foot trefoil, sainfoin, milkwort, salad burnet, betony, greater knapweed, lady's bedstraw, dyer's greenweed. Adder. Very good site; meeting objectives.

NEUTRAL GRASSLAND - Lowland Phil Williams 005 1006564 9.9395 0.00 03/12/2012 Favourable Biological interest on this unit relates to invertebrate assemblages. Vegetation remains in natural fluctuation with areas of exposed sea cliff and wet bits providing suitable conditions for the invertebrate assemblages.
NEUTRAL GRASSLAND - Lowland Phil Williams 006 1006559 103.6033 0.00 05/07/2012 Unfavourable - Recovering Largely scrub with viper?s bugloss and some garden shrub plants present. Only small pockets of chalk grassland remaining though much of the unit is difficult/dangerous to survey due to slope. Many nettles, Vipers Bugloss and Long grasses, with ragwort and thistles common. Composition improves closer to the cliff bottom but is not characteristic of chalk grassland. Some notable species found at the southern end of the unit at base of the cliff/slope include yellow horned poppy, rock samphire, golden samphire, wild cabbage, sea beat and rock sea lavender and sea spurrey, some other notable species may be present but overlooked.

CALCAREOUS GRASSLAND - Lowland Phil Williams 018 1023887 0.00 10/10/2012 Favourable meeting managment objectives,Grazing is tackling species poor areas,No loss of extent of feature, cover of negative indicator species within acceptable limits, Some areas of scrub but overall cover is not impacting on interest of the Unit. Short sward height with good cover of herbs, extent of bare ground has been reduced since previous assessment.
