DU admission: Over 72,200 candidates accept allocated seats in 24 hours
As Delhi University prepares for the upcoming academic session, a total of 72,277 candidates have accepted their allotted programs and colleges, exceeding the available undergraduate seats of 71,600. With 97,387 candidates allocated seats in the first round, the university is making extra allocations for optimal seat filling. Candidates have until August 21 to submit their fees, and admissions are based on a unique Common Rank system.
CBSE mandates NCERT textbooks for Classes 9-12, encourages use for lower grades
CBSE required the use of NCERT textbooks for classes 9 to 12, encouraging their use for younger grades. Prior to this, schools could choose between NCERT and private publishers. In the absence of NCERT books, schools should use resources from the CBSE website. Some parents believe private publishers offer better preparation for competitive exams.

Kerala government implements 'Fake News detection' in school textbooks
The Kerala General Education Department introduces 'Fact-Checking' modules in ICT textbooks for Classes 5 and 7, aiming to empower students to identify fake news and conduct fact-checking online. This move precedes the UK's plans to incorporate a similar curriculum change. Earlier, Kerala implemented a Fake News prevention training for 19.72 lakh students, focusing on digital media literacy and raising awareness about the impact of misinformation.

KKR drops plans to sell school chain Lighthouse Learning
KKR had just sent preliminary feelers to buyout funds and educational groups based out of West Asia and Europe to sell its five-year-old portfolio company, having hired JP Morgan and Avendus to run the sale process earlier this year. However, no financial details and other operational details were shared as the fund decided on the U-turn. KKR was expecting a a valuation of $1-1.2 billion (Rs 8,300-10,000 crore), ET reported in May.
IIT Madras secures top spot in NIRF ranking 2024
The Ministry of Education released the NIRF 2024 rankings, with IIT Madras topping the list for the sixth year in a row and IISc Bengaluru as the best university. IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore, and Calcutta lead in the management category. The framework assesses institutions based on teaching, research, outcomes, inclusivity, and perception. This year, three new categories were added, totaling 16, with over 10,000 institutions participating.

IIT Delhi's Abu Dhabi campus will introduce two undergraduate courses, Computer Science Engineering and Energy Engineering, from September 2023. With 60 seats available, admissions will be through JEE (Advanced) qualifiers and a Combined Admission Entrance Test.
