Pronunciation

Noun

eagle owl (plural eagle owls)

  1. Any of various Old World large owls of the genus Bubo, especially the Eurasian eagle owl, Bubo bubo, that have prominent ear tufts.

Usage notes

According to relatively recent genetic research the genus Bubo also includes snowy owl (former Lua error in Module:parameters at line 806: Parameter "noshow" is not used by this template.), fish owls (former Ketupa) and fishing owls (former Scotopelia). Further research may result in new different split of the genus.
