[edit]Inherited from Proto-Turkic *kirpi (“hedgehog”); cognate with Azerbaijani kirpi, Bashkir терпе (terpe), Chuvash чӗрӗп (čĕrĕp), Kazakh кірпі (kırpı), Kyrgyz кирпи (kirpi), Turkmen kirpi, Uyghur كىرپە (kirpe) and Uzbek kirpi.

- hedgehog, any small animal with a spiny back in the family Erinaceidae
- porcupine, any rodent with sharp quills in the family Hystricidae
- Synonym: تشی (teşi)
- (by extension) quill, any thorn-like structure that grows on the skin of a porcupine
- (military) cheval de frise, an obstacle made of wood with spikes
- Christmas rose, any perennial flowering plant of the species Helleborus niger
