Etymology

Sino-Korean word from 八はち (“eight”) + 寸すん (“degree of kinship”). A degree of kinship is the relationship between a parent and a child; see more at 촌(寸すん) (chon). In Korean culture, this is the least related person who is still considered a relative who cannot be married.
