This may give more insight:

從したがえ「女おんな」從したがえ「帚」，「帚」亦また是ぜ聲ごえ符ふ。「帚」是ぜ「婦ふ」的てき初はつ文ぶん，「帚」本ほん指ゆび掃帚，傳統でんとう認みとめ為ため打だ掃是婦女ふじょ的てき職責しょくせき，故こ用もちい「帚」來らい表示ひょうじ婦女ふじょ。後こう因いん「帚」專せん指ゆび掃帚，故こ加か「女おんな」旁つくり以表示ひょうじ婦女ふじょ之の義ぎ。

《[說せつ文ぶん解かい字じ》：服ふく也。从女持じ帚灑掃也。 Oracle bone: 婦ふ and 帚. The modern Old Chinese linguists probably would dismiss Xu Shen's claim in Shuowen, saying he was misinformed as the *pj- to t͡ɕ sound change had already finished during his time. Wyang (talk) 09:39, 21 June 2016 (UTC)
