ライン川がわの流域りゅういき地図ちず

ラインの守まもり、またはラインの護まもり（ドイツ語ご：Die Wacht am Rhein）はドイツの軍歌ぐんか・愛国あいこく歌かとしての要素ようそが強つよい民謡みんよう。1840年ねんにマックス・シュネッケンブルガーが作詞さくしし、1854年ねんにカール・ヴィルヘルムによって作曲さっきょくされた。イェール大学だいがく校歌こうか「ブライト・カレッジ・イェール」(Bright College Years)、同志社大学どうししゃだいがく校歌こうか「Doshisha College Song」(Doshisha College Song) はこの曲きょくが元もとになって作つくられている。愛国あいこく的てき歌詞かしが多おおく含ふくまれたこの曲きょくは、ドイツ帝国ていこくがまだ無なかった19世紀せいき前半ぜんはんのフランスとの国境こっきょう紛争ふんそう時じに作曲さっきょくされ、普ひろし仏ふつ戦争せんそうを経へて第だい一いち次じ世界せかい大戦たいせんに到いたるまでドイツ人じんに広ひろく愛あいされた民謡みんようである。

アルフレート・デーブリーン（1878-1957）による「二に十じゅう世紀せいきの世界せかい文学ぶんがくのなかでもまさに記念きねん碑ひ的てきな大作たいさく」（早崎はやさき守まもる俊しゅん）『ベルリン・アレクサンダー広場ひろば』（1929）において、主人公しゅじんこうのフランツ・ビーバーコフは、物語ものがたりの冒頭ぼうとう、テーゲル刑務所けいむしょからの釈放しゃくほう直後ちょくごにこの歌うたを「勇いさましく、力強ちからづよく」歌うたっている。

1930年ねんのアメリカ映画えいが『西部せいぶ戦線せんせん異状いじょうなし』は、教師きょうしの扇動せんどうに感化かんかされた生徒せいとたちが、軍ぐんへ志願しがん入隊にゅうたいするために、この歌うたを歌うたいながら教室きょうしつを去さる場面ばめんから始はじまる。

また映画えいが『カサブランカ』でも、この歌うたが登場とうじょうする場面ばめんがある。そのシーンでは、ドイツ軍ぐん将校しょうこうたちが酒場さかばでこの歌うたを合唱がっしょうするが、レジスタンスのリーダーが客きゃくたちと歌うたうフランス国歌こっか「ラ・マルセイエーズ」にかき消けされてしまっている。

この歌うたは、他たの「19世紀せいき初頭しょとうの民族みんぞく主義しゅぎ的てきな時期じきの「祖国そこくを歌うたった歌うた」」と同おなじように、「もはや実際じっさいに歌うたわれることはないが、今日きょうまで失うしなわれずにある」（Dierk Stuckenschmidt）。

歴史れきし

1840年ねんのライン危機ききにおいて、フランスは自国じこくが掲かかげる国境こっきょう概念がいねんである自然しぜん国境こっきょう説せつに基もとづいてライン川がわ東部とうぶをフランス・ドイツ諸国しょこくとの国境こっきょうにすべきと主張しゅちょうし、ドイツ側がわに割譲かつじょうを要求ようきゅうした。この地ちは三さん十じゅう年ねん戦争せんそうの時代じだいから、フランス・ドイツ諸国しょこくとの領土りょうど紛争ふんそうが繰くり返かえされてきており、ほんの数すう十じゅう年ねん前まえのナポレオン戦争せんそう時ときにもフランスに占領せんりょうされていた土地とちである。

このような状況じょうきょうの中なかで、1840年ねん9月がつ、ニコラウス・ベッカー（Nicolaus Beckerとも）という人物じんぶつが、“Sie sollen ihn nicht haben, / Den freien, deutschen Rhein”〔大意たいい：彼かれら（フランス人じん）に自由じゆうな、ドイツのライン川がわを渡わたしてはならない〕で始はじまる「ラインの歌うた」（Rheinlied ）、別名べつめい「自由じゆうなライン」（Der freie Rhein）という詩しを発表はっぴょうし、ライン川がわを守まもるように広ひろく訴うったえた。この詩しにはローベルト・シューマンを含ふくむ多おおくの作曲さっきょく家かが曲きょくを付ふした。シュヴァーベン出身しゅっしんのマックス・シュネッケンブルガーがこの歌うたの中なかのドイツ人じんの勇気ゆうきを称たたえる歌詞かしに感銘かんめいを受うけ、自みずから作詞さくししたものが「ラインの守まもり」である。当初とうしょはスイス人じんが作曲さっきょくした曲きょくに乗のせて歌うたわれていたが、カール・ヴィルヘルムが後のちに若干じゃっかん手直てなおしした上うえで作曲さっきょくしたものがヴィルヘルム1世せいに披露ひろうされたため、有名ゆうめいになった。 普ひろし仏ふつ戦争せんそう大勝たいしょうとドイツ帝国ていこく建国けんこくにより、この曲きょくは爆発ばくはつ的てきな人気にんきを誇ほこり、作詞さくし者しゃ・作曲さっきょく者しゃはビスマルクによって後のちに表彰ひょうしょうされた。

1883年ねん、ライン川がわ河畔かはんの有名ゆうめいな観光かんこう地ちリューデスハイムのニーダーヴァルト（Niederwald）に、戦闘せんとう的てきな女神めがみゲルマニアの巨きょ像ぞうが設置せっちされた。その完成かんせい式しきは、9月28日にちドイツ皇帝こうていヴィルヘルム1世せい臨席りんせきのもと、盛大せいだいに挙行きょこうされ、この歌うたが声高こわだかに歌うたわれた。そして女神めがみ像ぞうの台座だいざにはこの「ラインの守まもり」の歌うたが刻きざまれることになった。
