Engraulidae sunt familia piscium ordinis Clupeiformium. Plurimae species in aqua marina inveniuntur, sed nonnullae aquam amaram intrant, nonnullaeque in America Australi solum in aqua dulci habitant.[2]
Plus quam 140 species in septendecim genera digeruntur. In oceanis Atlantico, Indico, Pacifico, atque in Ponto Euxino Marique Mediterraneo inveniuntur. Engraulidae pisces oleosi plerumque habentur.[3]
